Ok, I sent a post out earlier about the knock sensor and tps. I purchased the tps from http://www.everythingnissan.com...GREAT price and a guy at work installed it...so easy!

BUT...my mechanic said that I would have to replace the KS in order for the "check engine" light to go out. Well, my check engine light turned off last night (replaced tps earlier in the day)....was I lied to or can this happen?

Depends on what code was causing the light. I'm not sure that knock sensors are a CEL light trigger on your car. The service manual would tell you for sure. How did your mechanic adjust the TPS - that's a very critical and sensitive adjustment. Typically you need a Nissan Consult to adjust it perfectly.

I'll check the manual on the KS...

Actually someone from work who works on cars put the new tps in for me. Adjustment...? As far as I saw and knew, it's just a matter of setting it correctly and then replacing the "insert" parts. After running the car for about an hour, the light turned off. Is there some sort of extensive adjustment that needed to be done?

Two thoughts: 1. I am under the impression that changing the KS's invovle a plenum pull -- ie. not so easy; 2. I seem to recall that the KS will not trip the light, but will throw a code.

I remember NISTECH saying that KS wont throw a CEL on any nissan..... It will show up on a consult diagnostic though

I can get you a SMOKING deal on KS!

It will require plenum pull, which is doable but not fun....

NO MIL light on pre ODB2 ecu 90-95 models. Under OBD2 every sensor must be monitored for operation not just continuity as in OBD1 [at start up].

Generic knock sensor codes which wil set MIL.

A 1997 OBD II should at least record an event for the KS failure, if not display a code.

ok the code I got is PO325. According to the above, this is a Bank 1 or single sensor. I'm not going to bother fixing it...although when I sell it, I will inform the new prospective owner. thanks again for your help!
