For what it's worth, it turned out that my whole problem was based on my crappy soldering job when socketing the ecu. I was running low on solder and skimped on the pins when I should have bought more. Once those connections were solid, everything worked perfectly. (To refresh my previous situation, my car would die randomly, not start randomly, run great for 2 weeks then die, etc. and eventually would not start at all.)
The point is you could have a weak connection for one of the cylinders, which could be in the wires anywhere from the ecu to the ignitors or wires going to the injectors. Too bad new oem harnesses aren't available as far as I know. You can look for continuity through suspected wires to find the problem.
If you have money to spend, it's 100% worth going to a stand alone, and I recommend the sds because Dee stands by it and might offer you a good program for 550's.
