warranty on used EX

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi,

I am thinking about getting used 2008 EX35 with 6000 miles on it. The seller is a private dealership and they are telling me that car probably was never serviced. I see in carfax that it was purchased in Sept 2008.

do you think it may void the factory warranty?

I did call the local infiniti dealership and they told me I need to have maintenance records if it was serviced at third party or it was serviced at infiniti, they would know that...

Do you think 27k is a good price for it? (journey w/o options)

Appreciate any help here...

With 8k on the clock depending on the situation I'm sure even without Maintence records that Infiniti would make a "good faith" repair under warranty. Now if they think that the thing never had an oil change and in fact someone drained some and ran it low for awhile then obviously they are not obligated to do anything.

It's honestly hit or miss. You wont have the proper paperwork to document anything was done...the "anything" that should have been done is two oil changes and an over priced inspection.

thank you, 302@12psi! I thought it is a hit or miss. I am reading now maintenance book and they clearly state that even on schedule 2 you have to service it every 7,500 miles or 6 months whatever comes first. It is not on 7500 miles yet, but it is a little over 13 months now, so I believe they may deny the claims if they look at the purchase date besides mileage.

Dealer is telling me he is sure it won't be a problem, but they will tell you anything to sell cars off the lot

I guess I need to keep looking or save for brand new. We so like the car with my wife that we are ready to close our eyes on tiny trunk and back space

I am not a lawyer, or a dealer, but from my understanding, they cannot void your warranty because you lack oil change documentation. As far as I understand it, it's actually on them to prove that the problem being addressed was due to lack of maintenance.

I personally would not worry about it. I'd change the oil right away of course and not even bring it up if you are in for service.

thanks...they have this wording in the warranty about 6 months and whatever comes first so technically they have all the rights to do that. So I guess it really depends who will be approving the claim and if that person will be in a good mood

also since it was not services, I believe they would need to fix everything under recent recalls so I bet they will check on warranty. Again it depends how mean they are

But price is good and the car is so nice...arrhhh

A cert. tech at jiffy lube can make an educated argument in court that failure to do oil changes can lead to damage. Your rebut is going to be I did them but I dont have proof. There is going to be a lack of oil did this.

You have yourself and maybe a cheap attorney. They have engineers, lawyers, and signed contracts regarding warranty work.

It's honestly hit or miss as I stated. I highly doubt you'd have any issues at all but if you are already second guessing it over this issue I'd find another vehicle.

I've turned in all my receipts with both new cars I've traded in...the receipts get thrown away. So even through I had them the next owner never gets them.

The other option is to have Infiniti run the vin number. They should be able to tell you what if any service has been completed if it was done at a dealership.

Also keep in mind that a car with that low miles was probably a re-po.

interesting. I wonder why they threw your receipts away. I also collect everything even for my 9 year old solara.

but you are right and that's exactly how I feel about it. 27k is a lot of money for me and I want to have a warranty for such expensive car even as reliable as infiniti

appreciate your insight, 302@12psi!

27K seems like a decent price, but I'd wait until closer the 2010s come out and try to deal on a 2009 demo car. Maybe it wont have all the options that the 2008 has (did you mention what options the 08 did have?), but you won't worry about the warranty. I agree with others ... you most likely won't have a problem b/c Infiniti cars are really bulletproof (I bought a new QX4 in 2001 and nothing EVER went wrong with it). But it's obviously your decision.

decided to take it the color combination is awesome (dark currant/tan leather) and turned out it came with premium package. condition is like new and smells like new...will see what happens with the warranty, I am going to go the the dealer to change oil this week.

So you will see me on this forum I guess thanks for all the responses and opinions, guys.

On a test drive I did not observed any issues with the fuel pump and steering rack. The only thing I noticed is a throttle hesitation when I was merging highway at 40-50mph (I think I read about this issue on this forum and it is pretty common for EX)
