Whats up everyone, this is my first post so i figured i would just jump right into it. i just bought an 04 silver 350z with about 40k miles on it. im thinking i want to buy a seperate extended warranty, and have found a pretty good one for a decent price. My question is 1: are there any high mileage z owners with any problems and would recommend getting an extended warranty, and 2: whats mods can i do without voiding a normal extended warranty?

im thinking i wont be able to afford to do anything to the engine for a few years being that im in school, but can i still get intake/headers/exhaust etc without voiding a warranty?

Thanks.

btw this is also my first nissan, my friend jeff has a clean 12 second s14 and convinced me to test drive a 350.... and then i fell in love

Congrats on the Z...You'll love it ! First off, let me tell ya that only nismo parts put on by the dealer will be covered under warranty. The only thing that won't screw up your warranty is a "Cat Back Exhaust" that you can have anyone put on. Anything other than that, is the dealers descression if they want to fix anything that went wrong when you put on an aftermarket part. If ya tight on cash, and want some zoom quickly, get the Greddy SP2 exhaust. Sounds great, and not at all ricey ! Good price also.

the only thing covered by nissan are the Nismo "R tune" parts...no S tune. I don't even know if they make an R tune cold air intake, but if you install it yourself, and it's R tune -to my understanding, it's covered by the warranty...I called Nissan directly, and that's the information they gave me. In my opinion, there's nothing worth doing to your car if you're concerned about warranty. As much as it's almost an oxymoron to say a car is an investment, I'm trying to get the most out of mine. bought a clear bra and haven't done anything to the engine. get all my oil changes at the dealership. I'd like for it to be faster, but I've always had trucks before anyway, so my Z is fast enough for me. I'm not going to dump a bunch of stuff onto a $30,000 car and rag it out more and mess up the warranty. I just don't have that kind of money to blow...more power to anyone who does.

It was my understanding that anything Nismo S-tune is covered and Nismo R-tune parts are not covered as they are considered "race" parts. That's policy at the dealership I work at atleast.

As for warranties, unless you're going to get a Nissan security plus warranty that covers everything, don't waste your money. Plus, not having the warranty allows you to throw all kinds of go fast goodies at it without the worry of voiding your warranty.
