So my new Z (2004, 38k miles) has a bad pressure plate. It makes springy noises when I start or there are momentum shifts in the drivetrain (ex: starting out, down shifting, up shifting), and it shutters when in neutral and the clutch is out. The throwout bearing (I think) also makes noise unless the clutch is depressed.

Anyway, I knew this when I bought it, which is why I got it so cheap. But has anyone turned in a bad clutch/pressure plate under warranty and had it replaced?

I'm thinking the dealer is going to say "normal wear" yet I'm going to flip out because the pressure plate shouldn't wear that fast, the clutch should (Mayyyyybe). And the clutch seems to grab fine.

My throwout bearing was whinning like hell. I just got it replaced. I am listening to the new one to see if it stops the noise.

With 38k miles I would think your warranty is out for this issue unless the car came with an extended transferable plan.

A bad throwout bearing will make noise ONLY when the clutch is pressed. If you hear noise when the clutch pedal is not pressed, it is from either the input shaft bearing, the pilot bushing/bearing, or maybe the flywheel.

The manual transmission on the Z's is known to have many problems. I had to have mine replaced less than one month after I got it, with 43k miles on the car.

If you got it from a dealer you should have a long warranty on the power-train that covers the transmission.

Most dealers wont cover manual trans unless it's a recall. They do though useually cover auto's.
