It makes springy noises when I start or there are momentum shifts in the drivetrain (ex: starting out, down shifting, up shifting), and it shutters when in neutral and the clutch is out. The throwout bearing (I think) also makes noise unless the clutch is depressed.
A bad throwout bearing will make noise ONLY when the clutch is pressed. If you hear noise when the clutch pedal is not pressed, it is from either the input shaft bearing, the pilot bushing/bearing, or maybe the flywheel.
The manual transmission on the Z's is known to have many problems. I had to have mine replaced less than one month after I got it, with 43k miles on the car.
If you got it from a dealer you should have a long warranty on the power-train that covers the transmission.
