Warped side mirrors?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

So I purchase a EX35 2010 a month ago. Love it. However, it seems that the side mirrors on both sides reflect a slightly warped image of the cars and objects. What I mean is that the objects are squished, just a little - enough to be annoying. Kind of like those funny mirrors at the circus that make you look tall, or fat except that it makes objects look smaller, if you know what I mean. Not the rear (inside) mirror, just the outside side ones. Do any other notice the same thing? Is this normal/ a "feature" of some sort?

Odd.

Did you wash your Car recently?

Do you leave your Car outside all the time?

If the answer is yes to both of the above... just take it to a heated Garage and see if a little Warm-air restores your Mirrors to their flatness.

Good Luck.

Yes, you are correct. I did wash it a few weeks ago and indeed noticed this "warpage" shortly after the first wash. Odd - no other cars ever did this to me. It is a little annoying...

What I don't understand is that I park it in a heated garage during the day (+10c) and in an unheated garage at night (but temps do not go below freezing) and the warpage has not corrected itself.

Anything else I can try beside waiting for summer (or a trip to the dealership?)?

Is the damage permanent?

if it's just frozen Water, there should be no damage once it finally melts and dries out.

Maybe it's a little Pebble in behind, perhaps?

perhaps... But on both sides, and at the same time? That would be an very odd coincidence...It was quite cold after I washed it 2 weeks ago (say -10c here in Ottawa) so your thinking might be correct. Let's see as it gets warmer. Your is fine? Aren't you in Canada as well - and where it is cold? Does you EX have the same thing happening to its mirrors in the cold?

I live in Edmonton... and it gets much colder here, than Ottawa.

Right now, it's -23*C

This Mirror-warpage phenomenon always happens to my GMC Truck, right after I wash it. So far, it has never happened to our EX35.

In behind the Mirrors on my Truck, there are little Pockets where Water can be trapped, with no means of drainage. The Pockets are created because of the Molded-plastic Backing-plate that moves the Electric-mirror and and holds the Heating-element and the LED Turn-signals.

Both our Vehicles got washed, yesterday... so I'll see what happens to our Mirrors once we venture out into the Cold. After washing, the Doors are left open and the Weather-stripping is all dried out. No special treatement is given to the Mirrors.

I have a Heated Garage @ Home, which only runs when required. Natural Gas is too expensive to let it run all day, every day... during the Winter.
