warped rotors

just got my 06' m45, and the rotors are already warped? is this normal? im having a mechanic turn them.

There are so many reasons for such problem - constant hard braking. excessive hub runout, improper brake installation, overtorqued lug nuts, bad tension rod, etc. Make sure you replace the brake pads too.

Your not the only one with warped rotors. I had my rotors resurface/turned at around 28k with new pads installed front and rear. 4k miles later when I apply the brakes with decent pressure the steering wheel shakes left and right like crazy. A big thing is to get your wheel lugs torqued at 80 ft lbs or else you will warp your rotors.

In the future buy some high quality rotors such as frozen rotors. A bit pricy but worth it in the long run.

Okay, who am I? I'm a performance driving instructor who has to make his Porsche's brakes live under racing conditions.

The most common error made which either warps or simulates warping of brake rotors is coming to a hard stop and keeping the brakes applied when rotors are hot. This promotes uneven cooling/warping of the rotors and if rotors are REALLY hot, can promote transfer of pad material to the rotor, which will simulate warped rotors.

If you have to make a hard stop. release the brakes and let the car creep (or shift to neutral) so that pads don't remain in contact with rotors.

Conventional wisdom says never bother to machine warped rotors. If your rotors are trully warped, the warpage will quickly reoccur after machining. Simply replace the rotors and begin practicing intelligent braking as outlined above.

Normal. I don't buy the posts blaming the driver. I'm easy on brakes - (typical 60K or more on front pads), do the "brake" in, do cool down driving on the rare occasions when I do brake hard - and mine still had a slight pulse (worse as they warmed) by 20K. The dealer didn't think it abnormal for the M either. A light turning by the dealer (under warranty) gave me another 10K but I'm starting to feel a bit of a pulse again. I have to admit I'm picky. Other people that have driven my car don't even notice it.

Maybe its the MN winters. I had a another car with this issue, bought another brand of rotors recommended by my local parts store and never had another issue (>100K from them). I definitely won't be buying Infiniti rotors as a replacement. The pads seem great, not much dust and good stopping power, but I'm not going through a yearly turning of rotors.

Any recommendations for the replacement rotors?

I'm going to look up Frozed rotors today and grab some new Red Stuff pads. It may be a week or so before I can get them put on. I'll keep y'all informed.
