Is anyone else having on-going problems with their rotors? It looks like I will be on my 3rd set of rotors and I just now hit 50K.

What shop is replacing them for you? Or are you doing it yourself and using the cheap Chinese stuff?

I'd be curious as well. Most of the time, rotors aren't 'warped' - that's usually a myth.

Maybe it's just a case of cheap pads? The semi-metallic ones really chew up rotors.

Did the same mechanic do all of your rotor replacements? Although excessive heat is what's normally behind a warped rotor, there are a few ways that heat can be generated, so it's tough to point the fickle finger of fate without more info.

The reason I brought up the mechanic is that it's possible that in one or more of the cases, he might not have properly diagnosed the real cause or perhaps did not do the repair properly. Think about it, if something else is causing the rotors to keep warping, like improperly adjusted calipers for example, then replacing rotors would be a temporary fix.

My recommendation would be to not only replace the pads/warped rotors, but to have your entire braking system checked out. Perhaps by someone other than the guy who did the previous jobs. Then immediately "bed in" your new pads according to the pad manufacturer's recommendation. Bedding the pads involves a series of highspeed brake applications, (preferably on a deserted highway) in order to wear in the new pads down to exactly match your rotor's entire rotor surface. That maximizes your braking power and levels out the hotspots, reducing the risk of rotor warpage. Very few people actually do that but it actually does help.

Could be excessive rust build up, rotors like to rust quite a bit. The rotors on my 2012 Versa S have 40k easy miles on them and they are starting to pulsate. I had everything apart for a cleaning and lube and I noticed a rust ridge on the rotors. Will have the be replaced sometime soon. I'm trying to get to 50k out of them.

I went to Orr Nissan in Corinth 6 times and they refused to identify any problem. The brakes were squealing, the vehicle was vibrating. It was unreal! Finally I brought it to Bankston/AutoNation.

What did they say the problem was?

Since those brakes are likely no longer under warranty, I would stongly advise finding someone else to look at it besides a Nissan dealer.

I'm almost at 12K on my 3rd set of rotors. They resurfaced them but didn't change out the brake pads. The Advisor gave me a verbal $5 K warranty on the resurfacing and tole me he noted my account. It's now squealing and vibrating worse than ever. I put another call in to the National Team 2 days ago and haven't heard back from them.

Again, perhaps you should run your issue by a mechanic that knows brakes/suspension better than a dealership. I stopped using dealers for anything except warranty/recall stuff years ago. think about it, at this point you've got absolutely nothing to lose except your aggravation.

Good luck

After not being able to fix the same issue 3 times, isn't it then legally a lemon?

I don't know about the lemon law. I don't have the time to deal with that. I called into the Nat'l 800 consumer affairs number 2 weeks ago and they closed my claim. The mechanic just resurfaced the rotors and didn't even test drive it. I put another call in Wednesday, and was told my claim was closed and they opened up a new one and said someone would get back to me within 48 hours. I haven't heard anything. At this point I can't get rid of it at another dealership because it drives so bad. So I need to try to get them to fix it so I can get rid of it. I agree there is something wrong with the braking system - but Nissan isn't willing to address it. It's always a bandaid! It's a 2010 Rogue with 46K miles.

I posted something similar a while back in the Z forum.

The original article from StopTech is linked at the of my post in case you want to skip all my personal commentary. ;)

I recall a year or so back there were some posts on better quality pads and rotors recommended. Is there anyone who can provide this to me. At this point I've done give up on the dealership. My brakes are squealing extremely loud, and they won't do anything other than deglaze the pads. With that said - I'm going to a reputable service station and getting my brakes looked at. Can anyone recommend better quality parts??

I would just go to rockauto.com and check out some of the more popular brands of rotors for your car there. Stay away from the cheaper stuff, obviously, but don't use price as your only comparison either.

Nissan in 2012 has come out with a counter measure rotor . this is the third correction in solving the shuttering when braking at higher speeds .
No one else has these rotors available. I just replaced my rotors for the 4th time with these new rotors. That being said in approximately 10 months i will know if they are the solution to the problem. I will keep you posted.
