97 2wd with the ka motor.

today while i was driving my brake and charge warning lamps came on simultaneously. they went off and came on a few times. topped off the brake fluid and cleaned my terminals, still had the problem.

what I did notice is that it seems if i keep my rpms at or above 2500 they stay off. my next thought is to check the belt for slippage and the alternator itself, but i didn't think of that until after dark so i'll have to do that tomorrow. i still don't know why the brake light would be coming on though if that were the case. has anyone had this problem before/any other suggestions? thanks in advance!

Have you tried pulling codes to see what the issue being reported is?

Those are the warning signs of a dying alternator.

sheeeit. I was hoping I'd at least be able to make it until the weekend. No such luck.

Wouldn't start this morning so I assumed the battery was just discharged from lack of charging and jumped it. Got about half a block and then it died. Now I checked the battery and it's still reading 12 volts.

Shouldn't I be able to at least start it off just the battery?

Surface voltage might always show 12 volts, it's what the battery drops down to when cranking...that's what counts.

Damn it is a tight fit in there. Changing the alternator was way easier on my old 720 with the z24. good news is the new alt. seems to be doing the job. Thanks again for the help!
