Warning! Fragile mirror cover on sunvisor!

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Dear niconautos! Wold like to warn you about another possible teeny-tiny problem. My mom and my wife in there cars at the same day flipped those covers to look at themselves( like they usually do) and covers got loose on there left side. A bit of a plastic got broken. Covers still attached, but hanging in there. Well, I don't know, how big of a deal is it for you, but we already set a repair. No worries, it's covered by warranties. Hope it's helps.

OK, you guys ... while you were looking in the mirror, were you reciting "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the ..." (Sorry, couldn't resist ...)

Cheers,David

Update about replacing sunvisor, because of a broken hinge on mirror cover. Waited for a week for part ( apparently dealership can't keep up with demand).. Now has been replaced on my mom's EX. Mine is next..Cheers..

This is a very very common problem with the EX35. I wish they would just do a mass 'recall' and replace it with a much sturdier one.

Mine broke too. Another thing that keeps breaking in mine is the plastic cover over the seat track below/behind the front passenger seat (not sure if it's broken or just falls off).

Yup - the plastic track cover behind the driver's seat has frequently done the same on mine when one of my teenagers sits back there. I don't think it's broken (not mine, anyway), just not designed to be sufficiently robust.

No trouble (yet?) with my sunvisor mirror covers.

The plastic track cover behind the driver's seat has been now changed twice under the warranty. The second one it's staying in place.

Mine is broken this past weekend. I need to book a date/time with my dealer now. Should be free, right?

Thanks for the info!

Was the successful replacement the exact same part, or was it an improved design?

Sorry but I didn't check on the part number or if the part was redesigned. Now when I think about it it was the passenger side that I had the problem with.

My wife flipped down the passenger-side visor yesterday and, sure enough, the hinge to the mirror door is broken on the left side of the door. The right hinge seems fine and the driver's side mirror hinge is fine on both sides.

There HAS to be some sort of manufacturing defect in those passenger-side visor mirror doors! My wife has NEVER used the visor mirror in the EX35... just the sun visor. The door just broke on its own. Very strange!

I'm going to call my dealer and see about having the part ordered and getting it replaced on a quick in/out basis. I'll be damned if I want to sit in the waiting room for an hour or more while they replace this ridiculous little part!

FWIW, one of the reasons I dropped Lexus and switched to Infiniti is because of niggly little problems like this. Our ES300 was in the shop for minor warranty work ALL too often! Stitching coming apart in the leather seat, clunking sound in the rear (bolts not torqued properly from factory), steering column issue, automatic door locks breaking (both rear passenger sides at different times), etc. All stupid little stuff that makes you glad you have a warranty but ANGRY that you spent three times what a Hyundai Sonata costs and you STILL have niggly problems!

Same thing happened on my car about 2 weeks after buying. But if you REALLY want aggravating nuisance problems, buy an Audi or BMW. Now they will drive you really nuts!

If you really want to live on the edge buy a Corvette. The quality is mediocre at best and the warranty experience is scary. To prevent Mr GoodWrench from making things worse I learned how to ignore trim failures, squeaks, rattles, and grinding noises.

Now the passenger side front seat belt is acting up. Every time my wife uses it, it LOCKS in one position. She can't lean forward with it locked and no matter how hard she tries to release slack on it a bit (but still keep it buckled), it doesn't unlock. The only way to unlock it is to unbuckle the seat belt, let it retract all the way, and pull it back out again. Then it locks again after just a few minutes of driving.

Oh well, at least I have TWO niggly problem items to have repaired in the same WARRANTY visit.

Talked to my dealer service person this afternoon. He's seen enough broken sun visors that he was willing to order the replacement part without seeing my EX35 first. Unfortunately, the same is not true for the passenger seat belt. They have to verify the concern before they can order a replacement. Which means I'll have to make TWO trips to the dealer (35 miles away) to get the belt repaired/replaced.

These niggly problems are starting to ruin the Infiniti brand for me! I won't buy another Lexus and now I'm leaning toward not buying another Infiniti. I think my next daily driver will be a Mazda. I've owned six different Mazdas (still have a 2001 Miata as my weekend fun car) and that brand has proven to be the most reliable. More so than Lexus, Infiniti, Honda and Ford! I almost bought a Mazda CX-9 instead of the EX35 but was put off by the larger size and lower gas mileage. The Mazda CX-7 would have been perfect if it had the same interior refinement and quietness as the CX-9. Maybe Mazda will have corrected that by the time I'm ready to get a new daily driver.
