Warning! Check your Engine for oil seep/leak.

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Guys, I was qouted today by my local Infiniti service dept in the amount of $2,800 to fix an oil seep coming from the timing chain cover. My 2008 EX35 now has 76k miles. I noticed this last year and I thought I only spilled engine oil during my oil change. So I cleaned them up with engine cleaner and it was dry for a few months until I totaly forgot about it. It just happened that I did check my engine and noticed this issue again.

It appears that it is happening more frequent now due the miles accumulating...

Here is the picture I found online and this is a G37 VQ engine. Mine only has oil seeping , but my dealer will fix it under my Elite Extended Warranty.

Is seems like the paper gasket is the culprit. Possible 2008-2012 VQ engines might have or will have this issue once the miles is nearing 100,000.

I know sev , one of our forum members here , had the same issue like this and he probably the first guy who mentioned his timing cover was just replaced due to leaks.

From what I read the 2012+ VQ engine might be safe since they change the gasket from paper to metal...

So , before your warranty expires, check your engine for oil weep/seep or leaks! :ohno:

Did an engine clean a few months ago and didn't notice anything then, but will do a check this weekend.
Appreciate the warning......Cheers...

AWGD8, do you know if it's possible for MY08-11 to change from paper gasket to metal gasket?

I read that this was changed for the 2012+ G37. I would assume the EX37 has a newer gasket.
This covers by powertrain warranty.
