Does any other z's out there run very warm after hard driving. I took my z out on the highway for a drive and i ran it hard a few times. When i got back to my garage my temp gauge was just under the upper normal mark on the gauge. This was at idle. My cousins twin turbo does the same thing after hard driving. I know that temp is possible but seeing it that close to the hot mark scares me. Any help would be nice.

I'll check the sensor. I don't have any leaks. Today i took it out again and the lights for the alternator came on. The battery, abs and brake light came on and stayed on the entire ride. I know on other cars thats means something is wrong with the alternator. I guess that can be true for the z as well? I'm starting to think since the alternator and the cooling fan/waterpump run on the same belt that the alternator is going bad maybe the bearings in the pulley is putting drag on the engine and not letting the cooling fan do its job. I'll test the voltage from the alternator and see whats up. What you guys think?

i've been told the original alternator tends to go bad early. if it hasnt been replaced i'd definately investigate further into it.

What grade fuel are you using any additive? What type of heat rating are the plugs your using? Also after a "hard drive" reason I put quotes in there is because there is a difference between that and "Z abuse" beating your z which isn't cool... anyway after a hard drive should take her for a "cool down lap" as they refer to in races, normal driving for several mins after a hard drive before parking/shutting the ride off.

Good replies. I was thinking the same things. I will check the alternator( voltage, connector, ground) to see if its all ok. As far as the themostat i felt the coolant hoses and both felt hot so maybe the stat is sticking open. If i rev the eng up to about 2k rpm the temp will cool down after a minute or so. I already replace the coolant fan lastweek. The clutch was locked. I just wanted some suggestions thanks for everyones input.

No, not normal. Could be the rad is slightly plugged, or even just years of debris build up in front of the A/C condenser which blocks off a huge portion of the air flow. Can also be a slight head gasket leak forcing combustion gases into the cooling system causing a similar condition to an air lock. Does your coolant go down so you have to top it up regularly?

The coolant level doesn't change. I guess i'll flush the system. I don't think the previous owner did it. Anyone know where to hook up the flush kit. I know when i did this to a different car long time ago i hooked the water hose up to the heater hose and then a drain hose to the top of the rad.
