Wanted some advice on a 89 240sx hatch that I am picking up this weekend. Maybe.

Been a NICO member for a while now but am thinking of getting into the 240sx these days due to them being so dirt cheap.

A friend called me and tells me has a 89 240sx hatchback with 76K original miles on 2.4L engine. Car is automatic and pretty much stock all around. Never owned one of these cars, always been a Z32 guy. The engine looks pretty damn simple to me but wanted to ask if there are any known qwerks with the car I need to know about. Rear main seals, PCV hoses, bypasses that make working on the engine easier, etc. Plan on only doing a conversion and just barely stepping up the car a bit. It will be a DD, and I just want to bump it up a bit.

I am pretty mechanically incline but like any vehicle, you learn to work on it as you pick up knowledge.

Also, is there any 240sx specific tools that anyone recommends as well?

Thanks in advance.

They like to coat the engine bay with a nice layer of oily dirt. And turbo it.

Replace the timing chain guide.

Oil leaks?

Valve covers/PCV's the problem????

I am assuming the engine designation for this 2.5L will be the KA24? correct?

its 2.4, no real problems with oil leaks other than a maybe a new valve cover gasket. the bigger problems with KA24DE and KA24E are the timing chain guides, they break and then the chain would rattle and eventually wear through the block

check the whole trunk area for rust for that matter.... spare tire area, the area inside the taillights / center piece.... it will most likely have leaks back there but its common and easily repaired thanks to NICO WRITE-UPS!!!! good luck with the buy!

and above the muffler, mine was rusted straight through because the muffler had holes rusted in it and it ate away at the frame rail.
