I can get them but FLOAT gets the next one. After I source his then I can start looking for another one for you. Do you need just the head or will you need the lower intake mani and fuel rail?

Jason, if you find one that is lacking a fuel rail or sub-mani, then he can have it. Otherwise, and sorry to be selfish, I'd still like the first complete one available. I've been trying to get my hands on one for over a year now actually.

didn't know you were struggling to find one. I've got a few (which need re-conditioning) at last count I had 11 engines in bits, and I think 5 of those are euro spec. the shipping might be quite bad though

The head will get torn down and rebuilt regardless, so if it's got bent valves, ect, I don't really care. The catch is that it's GOT to have the sub mani and the fuel rail. I need to be able to just bolt the stock plenum up to it. I also don't need, cams, lifters, or cam covers. Shoot me an email HERE

forgive my unawareness but could I have a link or some sort of explaination on what makes the euro head so much more appealing than the japanese spec head?

I don't know that it's more appealing yet. I plan on getting both on a car, dyno and tune the car, and see which makes better power.

The JDM head has an 8 port intake, the EDM head has a more traditional 4 port intake. The JDM head has a sub manifold that breaks the 4 runners from the plenum into 8 runners. It then has butterfly's in the sub manifold that are open and shut via a solenoid and an actuator that is controlled by the ECU.

The idea behind this is that the ports are closed at lower RPM/load and it increase port velocity and swirl in the combustion chamber. This is supposed to increase low end torque and gas mileage.

I know from having hooked the butterfly's up that they do work, but how do they work in comparison to the 4 port EDM head? That's the question I'm hoping to answer.

4 port head

8 port head

I was thinking. Has anybody taken the 8-port head, added butterflies on all the ports and hooked a throttle cable to the linkage? Poor-man's ITB.Just a thought. I am not sure having the throttleplates that close to the valves would be all that great for part-throttle, not much chance to to get a column of air stacked up in the port but I think it might flow nicely in the top of the revs. I just measured them out. The port plates are oval but 30mm wide at the shaft so we will call them 30mm. With eight of them the throttle area would be equal to twice a 60mm single throttle or one throttle about 85mm.

I think you nailed it there. I think the part throttle response would be very high and make it hard to hard to drive on the street.

It would still be fun to try though...

I'm not sure on what everyone is trying to achieve with the two heads or the difference between them, but I've found that a standalone system can fill in some of the blanks that most of you guys whine about (ie low end torque, building boost early). The CA18 is not all that timing-hungry on the big end, but down low, you would be surprise how much an extra 5-10 degrees would yield you off-boost. Just my small christmas present for the forum and it's members.

Merry Christmas to you too, bro and thanks for the welcome! I hope everyone achieves their goals in the upcoming race season or at least get their cars to run properly, so that they may enjoy them. If you guys can help Scott with his needs, please do so as he is one of our members who truly believes in developing the CA and will provide you with a product that you guys can be proud of as well. Good luck on this one, Scott.

The first thing I'd like to do is compare the port and sub manifold volumes. AFAIK, nobody has posted any measurements like that. I won't get into a whole lot of detail, as I'll start another thread when I start this project, but this should all be very fun!

I got both at the house. The 4-port is essentially the same as the 8-port with the divider ground out. I can bolt either submanifold onto either head. The injector is centered though on the 4-port submanifold.

My though is that it will have a larger port volume and help with mid to high range flow. I'm not too concerned about gobs of sub 3K RPM power since the CA just doesn't make power that low. I've got a CA T25 on there right now making 10psi at about 2700RPM and it's still pretty gutless down low.
