I recently sold my Cobra engine and transmission and no longer needed the monsterknob I used on that... The mustang shift knob is m12x1.75 and the rb's is m10x1.25... So I came up with a plan. I grabbed a m12x1.75 bolt at work and chopped off the head of it. When I got home I then took a cut off tool and hacked the shifter in half. Then I pulled out the welder and spot welded the new threads in place... Now I have more options for shift knobs being that mustangs are a dime a dozen.

Just spot welded for testing...

You should have just heli-coiled your knob down to 1.25.....

Good idea! There are a 'few' more options for Mustangs..

I also understand the heli-coil idea.

Two routes to an end!

I was actually looking into heli-coil and time-sert-ing the shiftknob... However, I would have to purchase those items. Doing it the way I did was free and took 10 minutes of my time. So that's the way I went. The shift knob I use is just a billiards ball and feels absolutely amazing in my hand compared to smaller shift knobs. You guys should look into the company that makes them. http://www.monsterknobs.com

He said that was just tacked in place. I rewelded my shifter and it didn't break (again). I forgot to finish it and busted it off at one point LOL.

Thanks for your concern. Everything is welded completely now, not just tacked. If I shift hard enough to break anything it will be me ripping the shifter completely out of the transmission. Trust me it will not break.
