Ive read your FAQ regarding upgrading to a bose nav system, You said that you can't upgrade from non-bose to the bose nav system bc you would have to rewire to supply power to an amp in the trunk, I have a 05 altima with the standard (non-bose) system, I don't want to upgrade it to the nav, just the 6 disc (bose) changer model---I don't care about an amp and I don't want to change my speakers (I don't have a prob with the way they sound)--I simply just want to change it for the 6 disc changer function in my car--would it be possible for me to do this and retain the sound quality that I have or do I have to have the bose amp and rewiring for the 6 disc bose stereo to even work in my car??

Thanks and if someone already addressed this sorry---Ive been searching all thru the forums and I couldn't find a post regarding this

Welcome! I'm sure a few more will chime in with ideas, but here are my own...

Are you looking to upgrade to just have a 6 CD changer, or are you looking to take advantage of the Bose system? If you are looking to go after the Bose system, you would most likely want to change over your speakers as well, as you probably won't hear much of a difference by simply adding a Bose headunit/amp.

If you are looking to just add a changer, there are a couple of options to do so on the stock radio, but you will lose the sound quality because they are universal add-on changers that are FM modulated (aka, the feed goes through your antenna).

Your best bet IMHO would be to buy a new headunit that either has a 6 CD changer or one that can accept one. If you are not really looking to upgrade the speakers to better ones and are just looking for the functionality, this is your best bet. Otherwise, I think you have a few more things to upgrade as well...

Hi, welcome 2 NICO, and thabks for searching and reading through the FAQ...

I believe the 6 disc changer comes with the Bose system.. if this is so, if you replace your factory deck wth the Bose 6 disc changer, it will sound HORRIBLE without an amp. This has been done on the 08 Altima coupes, and before the gentleman got the amp and new speakers, just replacing the factory deck with the Bose 6 disc changer... it sounded really bad... volume is EXTREMELY low, and everything is out of wack!

You can NEVER replace one piece of the BOSE system with something else, and have it sound the same....

look at it this way... what you are doing is the equivalent of taking a car with the bose 6 disc changer in it, and taking out the amplifier, and good speakers, and puting in the stock speakers... the BOSE system needs all of its parts to function properly!

Thanks this forum has been really helpful!!!

--I am going to look into some other options, like an aftermarket stereo--any suggestions on some good looking aftermarkets that aren't to flashy and that I can play my ipod through--(if I can't get a 6 disc changer than I might as well just get something that I can play my ipod through--so I won't have to worry about carrying cds in my car)

One other question, if a purchase a roxford fosgate Interactive DSP processor and had it installed in my car with the stock non bose radio, will that allow me to play my ipod through my car? and would I have the option later to add HD radio to my stock radio?

thanks so much again for everyone's help (i very car audio illiterate--and been to places like best buy and sound advice and no one can really give me a straight answer about anything)

If you are looking for a headunit with no Nav or DVD, then I'll go ahead and recomment the Alpine CDA-988X (where X is 3,4,5,6 or 7) series. I have a 5 and I really like Alpines "Full Speed" Ipod interface. It's easy to use and search for songs, and its fast.
