Well, here's my first official question post on the forums. I've been reading for sometime now trying to learn what I can. I tried to search on this topic and wasn't having any luck.

By the way I picked up a 2008 2.5S sedan w/CVT a few months ago in precision gray. And today she is getting her second mod..... Windows tinted!!! The first was silverstars which will soon be changed to HID's i think (summer time)

Here's the deal: Being that its winter in Mn I have found that I really miss having the ability to use my "handle" style ebrake in sticky situations and such. I know that some altimas came with a handle style ebrake and I was just wondering if anyone has tried swapping all necessary parts to make this happen??? The pedal style ebrake just doesn't cut it in the winter time 'round here.

Thanks in advance.

Robbie

Your Altima has a pedal e-brake? I thought all Altimas have handle style e-brakes? Weird! You are talking about your coupe right? Hmm...

OK I feel stupid... I read and missed the part where he was a sedan.

But that is kinda lame. My '05 sedan had a handbrake so I assumed all Altimas carried that over. Wonder who's bright idea that was. Hehe. Oh well more space for CUP HOLDERS...

I know this.... I was just putting out the bait to see if anyone had ever heard of a swap being done... I can't see it being that hard..... Just don't know all of the parts that would go into it... I'm guessing....

-new center console-e-brake mechanism-new cable-some misc bracketry

I've seen pics of Altimas W/CVT and a handle style e-brake so I know it can/has been done.... Here's a picture of one, for example....http://z.about.com/d/cars/1/0/...t.jpg

I'm thinking a swap like this has not been done.... Depending on price of parts involved I might try it out....

Who know's the best place to pick up parts online..... Looking for a place that has pictures on their site

It's not going to be very difficult, the hardest part would be mounting the ebrake/ finding a good location. The ebrake wires are right under the center council. There is also a few connections in there already so you most likely don't even have to cut the wire to attach to it.

Just curious, is there any particular reason your tackling this project?

Just looked at that link you posted, your only going to need 2 items since the e-brake assembly is designed to be easily changed depending on model. Scout out a new center council and the handbrake assembly (possibly a wrecked) and you should be home free. Doubt you live in MI, but if you do I can get oodles of Nissan parts dirt cheap.

Do you think you can find the parts you listed...? A new console, a handle, maybe the cable? Can you get prices? I guess I would be interested in the console WITH the seat heater buttons as well.... Let me know this is possible. I live in Mn so stuff would have to be shipped. Let me know man. Thanks

Actually.... Judging from the parts listed on this page:

http://www.courtesyparts.com/a....html

It appears that the cables are both the same for both styles of parking brakes all the way up to under the console (where the hand brake would be). And all I would need to buy is one little part and the handle assy!!!! AWESOME!!! I might actually do this. Still need to source an affordable console though. Might call some local junkyards and see what's up.
