i hooked up my s-afc2 on my sohc ka-t and set it up but it ran really bad, unhooked it and the car runs pretty smooth but still needs some fuel taken out. when i first set it up i had hot wire ,arrow up yellow to ecu , white to engine bay. set on 4 cyl, i went by the setup in the book for this unit so i dont see where i made a mistake. when the afc is wired correctly and set up it should run like it were off the stock ecu untill you start pulling fuel right? anyways any input would help i would like to have it tuned by this weekend, thanks a lot.

did you let the motor get to full operating temperature? safc'ed cars can run rough during cold starts, for me it levels out once the temp gets over 100 degrees.

what were your in/out settings? should be 5in 5out but others can work sometimes

i will try the 5 in 5 out, i had it at 5 in 2 out but it doest even idle well or want to rev. every time i touch the gas it tries to die.

why did you have it set to that? that is your problem.

the stock 240 maf is 5. since you are using the stock maf i assume then it is 5in and 5 out

not to confuse anyone.

the safc can tune for different maf's. the most common and useful is the z32 (TT/NA/j30 are the same) maf. the number for the z32 maf is 2. since this is the sensor going IN the ecu this is the IN setting for the safc. the safc modifies this signal and sends OUT 5 to the ecu so the ecu thinks the stock maf is installed

ebonics for "ride"

ride being slang for "car"

ahh i see. i had/have a similar or same problem

my car wont run off the recommended 2in 5out (which it is suppose to be)

mine runs best off 1in 6out, this is stock ecu with safc and z32 maf. try these or others like 2in 6out

Yeah, I know what whip means, I was being sarcastic cause the word whip being used to describe a car is GAY at best. If anything screams 2 Fast and 2 Furious it's the word whip.

i was implying sarcasm when i mentioned the word "whip" . the next question i have is how much fuel people take out with the dsm 450's i took out -5 at idle and it idles fine. i have an air fuel gauge and it will not work, every time i touch the signal wire to the o2 sensor wire it turns off. the gauge worked fine in my crx , the power wire for it read 11.0v i dont know if that would cause a problem or not. going for a test drive tomarrow hopefully it works out well.

you can do the math yourself....stock KA uses 270cc injectors...if you have 450cc's..what % of the 450's must you take off to get it to 270's? at idle your trying to make the car use the same amount a stock KA would use...but at boost, you'll want to use more than 270 depending on how much your boosting

HOWEVER...you did not mention you have a wideband or such..that air fuel gauge sounds like garbage..invest into a wideband 02 and you'll be an expert in no time

sorry pal it doesnt always work that way, when you add in bigger injectors you cant ultimatley determine thier flow by doing simple math. at idle there are many different variables that will alter vaccum and also with a car that is turbo'd you need to set the timing to where it will not be dangerously advanced in boost . this is the first time i have even seen a sohc ka that was turbo'd, but i messed with quite a few turbo cars im just trying to have an example to look at.

the engine can idle like its stock but be at 10:1 afr's. its a better judgement doing it by math to get a base setting for the idle. i have had 370, 480, and 550cc injectors all on stock ecu and safc and the math way always works.

did you get the in/out settings to work right?

mine wants to idle smoothest at +5 after that it runs rich but its not all the way tuned. doing the calculation can get you close but its unlikely that it will ever be perfect. it always takes a little tweaking but as long as you are close that helps.
