If you still have a stable job and have good savings, please continue to live life normally, what I mean is don't hold back on your spending. If we can boost purchases again we can get back this economy into the path of recovery.

I am doing my part. I am spending more than before especially now that I have extra money from the fuel prices being so low. Whereas a couple of months ago I couldn't spend more because most of my money was going into filling up my tank.

please discuss...

I just supported the US economy. My work just bought me suspension from a fellow NICO member ha ha

You are missing part of the picture. There is much more to it than just people spending money where they can. Supply and demand, price elasticity are also huge factors both affected by a recession.

Yeah! Spend spend spend! Keep being normal and building that consumer debt! Yeah! Spend spend spend!

Save the economy: eliminate your debt, invest, then spend.

With the deflation going on, if you still have your job and you aren't in financial trouble, there should be no reason why you changed your spending habits. In fact, with the deflation, you'll get more bang for your buck given that the value of the dollar remains the same. The hardest and biggest part of a recession in a capitalist economy is the mentality of its consumers.

Lol for real. We got a 35KV massive diesel generator for 500 bucks. Thing has 2.5 hours on it, started right up, runs without smoking. We'll be running three phase band saws, tig welding while powering our house if the electricity goes out on us again.

Not sure of the tone of this, but we are in a deflationary period which unfortunately discourages spending and investment.

Well, I'm a tightwad most of the time, so my being a tightwad during the recession doesn't hurt anything.

It's the tightwads like me that keep us OUT of recessions to begin with, given that we don't need bailing out. I consider that as my doing my share, and I intend to keep doing it.

I'll keep buying fully depreciated cars, investing my money, living on cash instead of credit, et cetera.

Prices on almost all consumer goods are falling. I'm getting emails from companies (car parts, Amazon, p0rn, etc) practically begging me to buy things and offering deep discounts if I do. People are tightening down and selling things, too. This fills Craigslist, pawn, consignment, etc shops. I've ALWAYS tightened down, and now when everyone else is unloading, I'm buying.

I haven't walked into a store that didn't have an above-average sale going on.

That's how **** is on sale. Because it actually is. Last month I didn't budget any more for "toys," but I actually got much more for the same amount of money.

I'm LOL'ing at all the ignoramuses that bought unnecessary stuff on credit and overextended themselves over the past year.

Those of us who didn't will be picking up a "gently-used" 73" HDTV, a Bowflex, and maybe a Blu-Ray player for 1/4 of the original purchase price.

I feel for the people who are losing their homes and having to sell off their stuff, but these are the times when the frugal are rewarded.

Don't do it! I had one for a while - they really suck compared to lifting at the gym. Of course, if you can't find a good gym, then go ahead with the bowflex, but quite honestly, from a long time weight lifter standpoint, I hate the contraption.

Biggest gripe is the ineven resistence through reps - starts easy, gets tougher, gets easy - etc - it's not very even in terms of your work out, and I feel it causes you to jerk a lot, possibly causing microtears.

My daughter's babysitter's husband picked up a 40" TV, blue ray disc player and Sony Surround Sound system and put it all on credit. $1,800 with no payments for two years. He said that he hopes to be a store manager for his company by that time and be making 40-50k.

Me? I walked in and paid cash for my 40" Toshiba and got a better deal on my TV and cables.

Man, I have spent my butt off. 50 inch plasma, playstation 3 (discounted blue ray), BMW (just for the xenon projectors of course), and I am trying to find something else to buy (no luck there) but instead I am just going to go away for a while.

Probably just going to put the Maxima in the shop and let them work on it. There is also a 74 Nova I might take a gander at but doubt if anything is going to come of it.

Thx for the tip!

Trust me, if you saw me in person, you'd say "Oh - Anything is better than nothing!"

I was looking at the Revolution (the new model). Got a spare walk-in closet that it'll fit nicely in and still leave room for a full workout and some storage.

And there's no way I'm going to a gym - Coed gyms are too damn distracting, and all-male gyms are... well... gay.

I'm forced to shell out big bucks this month. Moving sucks. So I'm unwillingly doing my part.

After that, though, I'm going to be in super-frugal mode as I save for a house with a big garage.

I've never had the ability to use the revolution, though i've heard better things about them than the standard rod bowflex - if you actually get it, let me know how you like it!

If you venture into the less desirable part of North St Louis, there's a Goodwill store that sells all items for 95 cents. One day I came home with two Macs and three huge bags of clothing.

All the clothes you wear are used. I just skip the markup and enjoy the depreciation.

As soon as I decide I'am looking to buy a certain item I always check out craigslist. About a month ago I bought a tv stand for $50, which is the same one they are selling at best buy for $400. Ya I talked the guy down from $100 but now I have a pretty much brand new tv stand at 1/8th of the price. That fool craig is the $hit

This year I made close to 23k and I have no savings and I'm about to have no debt so I am doing my part
