Hello , I want to buy a 89 240sx and have looked at one. The cardrives well but has some rust , also no A/C . Mileage is below 110K, its a basic model with no options. How much will it take me to install a a/c and cd player. How much do you guys think is a fair value for the car? It is 5 sp manual and like I said car runs good. Thanks

Don't buy it, it has rust...but if you must...1500, that's my guess.

I wouldn't give me than $1200. With rust, no options, and no a/c. If you don't have a/c stock, there is no reason to add it, it would cost wayy to much. You might as well buy a 240sx that already has it.

I agree with apexi240.......if it has rust than move on. You'll just have to keep looking. As far as installation of a CD player.........just do it yourself!!

Wont the A/C off an SR20DET work mated with some junkyard 240 stuff? If the rust is minimal a body shop can fix that. If its mechanically sound and the interior is in good shape no A/C and rust can make that car a dirt cheap buy. It could work if your smart about it. Depends on who you know and what your resources are. I got my body work done cheap after a little asking around. The A/C would be a bit more difficult though but if its not a big deal to you go for it. Being patient though never has a downside. Give him $800 for it. A dealer would laugh if you asked to trade in a car with no A/C. No one wants a car like that. I had a 1991 Prelude Si in excellent shape for its age. The dealer told me $800.

It's all up to using your judgment. If the rust is really bad and in it's in panels and that aren't easily replacable or repairable. it's probably not worth the trouble. Frame rot is the worst. I dealt with that a little with my 240z. Also, be sure to check if the rust is in the spare tire well as well. Alot of people over look that area because it's covered. As for the AC. I never even use mine. Even in the summer. Just makes the car bog down. But I live in Seattle. Depends on where you are. Hot places it's good to have. As for the CD player. They're really simple to install into 240sx's. I've done three so far. And if you don't want to deal with it, an installation place will install one for really cheap. Usually free with purchase at places like Car Toys and stuff. When I was buying my 240 I wish I had known about the LSD that came stock with the SE's. But at least my base model doesn't have the foam spoiler/rusty hatch. And I can always swap an LSD.

The LSD only came on ye olden HICAS equiped s13's. Also if the rust is on the hatch well thats life don't worry about it. I would give no more than a $1000 dollars. Also are you sure it has no air at all, or does the air just not work? Welcome to NICO we will rock you have a nice day. :batman

I wouldn't wait around looking for a s13 w/ lsd stock...They didn't come in the SE models. they came as a handling package that includes hicas. so even if you do find one, you probably won't want the hicas. (and they didnt come in any 89-90's)

If you are bothering to order a front clip you should be able to get the Silvia 5 or 6 flange LSD for cheap. Mine came with the entire rear end and LSD for an additional $250 and is good to 400-500 Hp. Its viscous but you cant beat the price. Dont bother with waiting around for a HICAS.

if the rust is all cosmetic, dont worry about it too much. The 1989 base model 240sx coupe is the lightest of all 240's, the hatch model only weighs a couple more pounds. Its getting really hard to find manual 240s in sound mechanicle condition so it might be wise just to pick it up for $1000-1500. AC could be installed but it would require taking out the entire dash and would be expensive to pay someone to do it.
