I am new here. Bought an 04 G35 6MT Coupe in November. No mods to the vehicle. Very clean.

I love my G. It really suits me, but I have this bug for more power. I have this bug for better throttle response. You all know what I mean. I want to break the 300HP barrier.

I know of several mods that will aid me in this: Plenum spacers and a CAI or Short Ram. What other ways can I increase my power? I do not want to break the bank, but I am willing to spend some cash as well. My budget would be in the 500$ range or so. I want the most bang for my buck.

Most bang would be a plenum spacer/intake. I'd recommend the R2C because it uses dry-type filters..but it's more expensive than others. Another option is the JWT PopCharger with the Z-tube. It has an oil-type filter...but it's cheap. Next would be exhaust, but that would be over your $500 budget.

Yeah, the ultimate goal is supercharger. However, is there nothing I can do with the computer? I know that they tune the cars up pretty well when they actually build them, but I have heard that cars for the American market are tuned back electronically. So a new Plenum would not be an option? I have seen them reasonably priced and in a way opens you up to further enhancements, right?

Your budget of $500 is what makes computer upgrades a limitation. The Motordyne spacer is around $250-ish. There are cheaper options from a spacer perspective in the $100 range but you get what you pay for. ECU tuners, like the Uprev Osiris are in the $500+ range by itself. You could probably get a used Cobb AccessPort for a couple hundred but you just have to be aware that they are no longer selling them new for N/A applications. I believe BullyDog and others have tuners you could look into.

audtatious,

I appreciate the advice on the ECU angle. I am thinking I will just have to go Spacers and CAI. In the near future I am gonna redo the exhaust and maybe, just maybe add some performance headers. As I said, I wanna go Supercharger before too long, but the cash!!!! Not enough in the bank I am afraid.

If you're doing a supercharger, I'd get the Spacer now and maybe the MREV2. The CAI will not be used with a SC.

How difficult is the MREV2 modification? Most of the others are actually quite easy, even exhaust modifications are not overly taxing. Price wise it makes sense, plus it give a high performance element just in case I supercharge.

Never been a major fan of headers as they usually don't add enough performance to equal the problem of installing them. Would be better on your generation G than mine as Nissan did spend some time working on flow characteristics on the VQ37

MREV2 is easy...just a few more steps than the spacer install. I did mine together and it only took a few hours (being slow and methodical)

Well I did find a pleasant surprise when I bought the vehicle: The stock intake hose had been replaced with a Z-Tube. I have since replaced the old filter with a K&N High Flow. The power gain, though minimal compared to other mods was noticeable.

Hmmm...you must have had a cheap filter in there. Usually the only good a K&N gives is the ability to clean and reuse, IMO.

Score on the Z-Tube!

5/16 spacer and z-tube is your best bang for the buck...

since you already have a z-tube put that $65 towards a full intake replacement...

Might want to save your money on the headers as well....I know that for my 03 G, Stillen recommends to not have headers if you are going to be supercharged using their SC. I stayed NA more because of the money and ease of working on it.

One more thing....IMHO my best mod has been a 3.7 VLSD off of a 2008 g35. It cost me 500 with shipping (used) and i installed it myself but it's a great mod if you stay NA! There are plenty of posts on it if you do a search.

you're not going to break 300 with a DE, unless you do a full high compression build with ITB's or some crazy ish like that. The biggest performance boost after a plenum spacer and HFC or test pipes is going to be an Uprev ECU tune, the electronic throttle doesn't open fully from the factory, so just by syncing this you'll pick up quite a bit of responsiveness. Good friend of mine got dyno tuned, 2005 G35 bone stock and picked up 19whp and 24 rwtq... If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me, my buddy oowns a protuner shop and I can get hookups on this stuff ;)
