Hi all! I love my 2008 Versa S, but the only only thing that drives me batty is the lack of some type of map light in the front of the car.

Has anyone added any type of lighting up front? I'm not necessarily talking about a detailed install - are there any other options?

Thanks so much,jen

I haven’t done it – I’ve thought about it. The following three options come to mind:

1. A small batter powered (AA, AAA type) round, oval, or rectangle shaped LED light that could be placed about anyplace in the interior using self stick Velcro.

2. A small light that plugs into the power port. My be hard to find one that will light up the space you want illuminated due to the location of the power port. I have seen them with flexible goose necks. You can also get an extension cord for the power port. Depends on how often you would use it & how much clutter/wire you would tolerate laying around.

3. Most expensive would be having a 12 volt light and switch wired & mounted in the car.

Thanks for your reply! I'm leaning toward option 1, I suppose...I'll take a trip down to the auto store, or hardware store. I did get one of those 'stick on' lights once, for a small closet, and was shocked at how poor it was. Of course, this may be better than nothing...

thanks!

I've tried browsing through websites like this:https://www.everythingnissan.c...gid=0

However, I haven't found yet how much will all the map lights set cost. I think it is a little expensive, not sure though... On the other hand, I know that in the US you can go to junkyards and maybe find that part from old Versas... It should be a lot cheaper... Unfortunately I'm not in the US, and not going there any time soon...

I may start a new thread to reflect my questions, but:Is there a different headliner in the SL with the overhead console? I have the S, and there is a bump where the console would go. I wonder if the SL has a flat headliner. If anyone has a pic of an SL, that would help, I'll post one of my "hump" if that helps.

I also wonder if the wiring for the console would be there. I guess all you'd need is constant 12v for the lights.

Surely there is a way to order the console from Nissan. I'll poke around some parts sites.John

So that's where the mic is for factory bluetooth... My maplight assembly doesn't have those "holes."

I'm guessing there's two different maplight parts you could order then.

Yeah it works great actually. I like it a lot. It's one of the features that made me want to buy this car. It's really easy to pair with your iPhone (just like any other phone I'd think). Just make sure you are pulled over and in park when you try to set it up for the first time.

It's a nice feature to have if you like to blast music (like I do). It fades out your music and it does a little ring (you have a couple choices to choose from I think) and than once you hang up it fades back in where you left off!

It's good stuff!

You definitely should get an iPhone! They can basically do anything you would ever want it to do plus more. I use it for everything from Posting on here, to checking my bank account, to ordering things off of ebay for my V!

It's very useful. I believe that AT&T in September will be switching out the iPhone 3G 8gb ($99) for a iPhone 3GS 8gb ($99). It would be a perfect time to get a new one! I have had all of them! lol

Lol. Ya I would love to get one. I don't think I am going to get any data plans though, they are too expensive. I just want to use it as a phone/ipod. I'm not going to be using the internet on it. But I still want to get it

I just bought an '08 S, and I LOVE the Versa. I have the same complaint, though. This is the first car I've had in years that doesn't have map lights. Please post if you find out more information about adding the factory light/sunglass holder set up.

i called the dealer and the map light/sunglass holder is over $200 (from the versa SL). I'm not even positive it is the right one. I'm going to try to find a dealer with one in stock to look at.I'll post back eventually, but this process will take a while (not a lot of free time right now).john

So I thought maybe they use the same overhead console in sentras. I checked the 09's and the Sentra has just map lights, no sunglass holder (at least the 5 cars on my dealers lot). So I thought maybe the console from a previous gen. of Sentra would fit. I posted this on the Sentra nicoclub forum zer...stion, but didn't get much help.

So, maybe someone here has a 00-06 sentra and can help a brother out. I just need to know if the console is about 8x8 inches and would it sit flush in the headliner? Here is a pic of one. It does not appear that it sits flush with the headliner, but I'm not sure: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...%3AIT

My next option is to get a rearview mirror with maplights, compass, and bluetooth in it. Something like this: http://electronics-pluz.com/geaudicotewi.html but I know I found it cheaper than that site.John

As an owner of a S model, could I add the overhead console? I think I found it for $18 here:http://www.nissanpartsconnecti...0/127/

Excellent find.. I've been wanting the overhead console as well for the sunglass holder but more importantly the map lights. It would appear that there is a wiring harness that goes from the lower right front under the dash up to the roof area, and that this harness is different on the S and the SL. I wonder if it is possible to change this harness (about $48) and then get the full map light functionality on the overhead console.

Anyone have access to a crashed Versa SL to see what the wiring in the headliner looks like?

I really think you are getting one small part of the overhead console for $18. I think the description is misleading. If you look at the map light assembly, it is ~$186.00. I think that is really the whole assembly.I'd love to be wrong, though.John

Yeah... I'm sorry but the correct price is $186.86. The item you need to look for is the "Map lamp assy , W/o sunroof, W/o telephone".

Here you can see pics for better understanding of the parts names:https://www.everythingnissan.c....html(On this site is actually cheaper: $175.18)

I wish we could be wrong, I also want the map lights so bad...
