So I'm looking into buying my first d21 pickup. It just so happens to be the 3.0 v6 which I'm familiar with because I own a 1985 300zx. I called the guy, he told me the truck has 285k miles on it(It's a 1991) and his bottom price is $3100 bucks, he has no service records on timing chain etc(says it was done at 210k, due anyway). To me, this seems really steep for a truck with that high of miles but I know of toyota pickups having 300k and still worth upwards of 4k... Really want some advice if I should spend 3100 dollars on this truck or if I should keep looking.

Here's a pic of the ad- http://prntscr.com/9l9jgo

Thanks!

The vehicle is worth only what you are willing to pay. Is the pickup a - Base - SE - or a XE model ?? Does it have working cruise control, working AC, a sunroof, power windows, power locks. Do you do your own repair work? One trip to the repair shop could make the 3 plus k to 4K plus. Also add transfer fees, sales tax to the asking price. I wouldn't take the sellers word. If you're a serious buyer take it to a shop and have a inspection done. Looking at the body I suspect the body has been repaired. I noticed the windows are tinted. Make sure that is legal were you live. The asking price doesn't make it the greatest bargain. If it's in excellent condition and a SE loaded model I would entertain the asking price minus the sales tax,all transfer fees and license fees. Also figure in your average yearly mileage. If it's just a grocery getter or a work vehicle,it will probably last a while. I noticed you didn't mention if the vehicle is a 4x4 or 2wd. Looking at the fenders I am guessing - 4x4. Keep in mind this isn't the only truck for sale.

I'd keep shopping if the guy has no service records. Even a well maintained VG is nearing end of life with those miles on it.

Pass. With those kind of miles you are looking at both an engine rebuild AND a transmission rebuild and soon.
