I am looking to change up the sound of my 02 qx4. I really want it to sound like the fx35 like in this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhT1Mvz_ ... re=related

I'm looking to spend about 300$ max if possible. Should I get a specific muffler or maybe a CAI will help?

That fx sound is very similar to the 350z/G35 sound. Its because their exhaust layout is almost identical if not identical.

Search for an FX35 exhaust and compare to the Pathfinder exhaust

You just need to replace the muffler, for 300 you should be able to get a mod done. EASILY. i would say 200

So, I've literally been watching videos of different exhausts on youtube all day and I've really liked the magnaflow street series (14807, 14815) mufflers. However, the mufflers alone are almost 200$. Do you have any suggestions of your own on a particular brand I should check out?

just buy a universal 2 in 1 out magnaflow muffler (2.25 inlet 2.5 out) and have them cut out your resonator. Problem solved. You want the sound, you pay the price. you cheap out, and youll pay the price.. down the road...

Will taking the resonator out make the exhaust too loud? I don't want to wake up the block... just a bit louder than stock. Also, I wouldn't want a dorning noise while on the highway.

I cut out my Reso. I went full cat back

2.25- muffler and opened up to a single 2.5 tail pipe.

Deleting the resonator will yield much better sound and better flow. My set up is as straight as i can get it and it does not wake the block. Mind you if i put a cherry bomb vortex in there then yes... it will... but the muffler is civil, and during long drives does not drone and annoy you.

Simply bolting up a FX muffler wont give you the same sound. The two cars might share the same type of block but they have completely different tunes on them which is why the pathy vq puts out 240hp and the fx 298hp, the transmissions are different with power delivery and the exhaust is completely different.

I cut everything after the cats off on mine, its pretty loud on cold starts but its not terrible. It resonates like a G35 at certain rpm at low speeds and the drone isnt terrible. You can still have a conversation at highway speeds without any issues...my tires are actually louder lol.

You realize what you hear in videos can drastically change in person right?

I think I'll try out your suggestion and get a universal magnaflow and res delete. However, I've had a hard time finding a muffler with a 2.25 in/2.5out. Theres 2.5in/2.25 out, 2.25/2.25, 2.5/2.5. What would be a better choice?
Thanks for all your help

Start by looking for a muffler with either 2 in 2 out, or 2 in 1 out.

you have to remember that when i say universal, it can be flipped around. your 2 in 1 out can be a 1 in 2 out.

there is a dual 2.25 "in/out" and a 2.5 "in/out" and worst case if you really cant find it... just go 2.5 2.5

I think this explains pretty much your doubt. No matter what muffler you get, your Path will not sound like an FX, but it will sound pretty neat if you get the nice exhaust set up.

I'm not even gonna try and get it done in my college town so I called around and found a few shops that will swap the muffler and delete the res for $45-65 total in my hometown. :rotfl So just to make sure before I order my muffler, this http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shop ... versal.asp 12258 muffler 2.5in./2.25in. dual in single out should just fit with no major piping issues for the mechanic right?

I strongly advise replacing all the piping as well. But thats just me (rust reasons and straighter flow etc etc) definitely replace the tailpipe piping. Anything AFTER your new muffler should be replaced (its a bigger outlet afterall)

:yesnod Can't wait to see/hear.

Please, please post the total cost and some audio. Under $300 and I'll be getting myself a Christmas gift. My exhaust rattles a bit, something needs to be tightened.

I absolutely love the FX. In fact, it is the next car on my list. It just sounds so DAMN sexy.

Got it done this past weekend and I love it! I was afraid it'd be too loud but it's perfect. my parents didn't notice anything different about my new exhaust at idle(which is good because they don't like me modding cars). The tone is much deeper and silky smooth not like those clumpy loud v8's you hear all the time. I've been driving around with my windows down just listening to all the different notes at various rpms. Muffler was $98 and labor ended up being $133. That included muffler installation, reso delete, and 2.5 in piping from the muffler down. Definitely money well spent imo. I will try and post a video as soon as I get a camera(no camera phone). I may just end up borrowing a friends camera. Definately turns heads when you step on it :chuckle:

Here's a rough video of my qx I promised. It's taken with a crappy old point and shoot so the audio is pretty bad..I'l upload a better one after my friend gets his new camera.
