Repost from Gen Chat.
The sub was in my room for a couple years, but there was rarely a time I could use it without waking the kids or bugging the nanny. I mostly use my amplifier as a headphone amp. The audio in the car was lacking, so I got creative.
Parts:-- 12-foot RCA cable from a box of crap in the closet.-- Yamaha subwoofer from Freecycle, which was of course free.-- 12v adapter that I borrowed from a friend in Washington and never returned.
Installation:1. Put subwoofer in back seat foot area.2. Run RCA cable under center console to back of the Alpine head unit.3. Put Ace of Base CD in Alpine changer.
I only use the back for luggage anyway.
The sub has a volume knob as well as a high cut knob, both very handy.
The Roady XT. Its super thin, so I was able to install it on top of the ash tray. I ran the wires into the ashtray, which then go behind the dash. I removed the 12v connector from the ash tray and tucked it behind the dashboard as well. The tape adapter wire goes above the head unit, down the right, behind the dash, and out the opening in the ash tray, over to the left, and into the XM tuner. Its all nice and clean.
I also patched my driver's seat.BEHOLD THE POWER OF 3M PACKING TAPE. I slid the ends of the tape into the seam so it wont slip out and leave goo all over my shirt. Brilliant, I say! That'll buy me time until I can have it professionally resurfaced. It really does work incredibly well and doesnt slip or slide under intense heat like duct tape would.
The best part about this sub is that the sound is very deep and clean. Its punchy enough to give me a back massage but it doesn't broadcast itself outside the car and draw attention. That's very important for a swedish pop connoisseur such as myself. The mids and highs are cleaner now, since I was able to reduce the bass on the equalizer and cut back on distortion. The factory speakers no longer have to work so hard.
