want a daily driver 240, got some questions

ok, I want to buy a 94 or up 240 sx for under 10k to use as a daily driver.

which year and model is the fastest? what about most reliable?

I am not going to be doing many mods to it probably just a full exhuast system, cai, and maybe some wires or some other cheaper parts.

I know yall will probably tell me to use the search button but i figured it would be eaiser this way

Dude, you're off to a rough start... Well you seem to want a S14, so it really depends on taste wheather you want a zenki (round headlights) or a kouki (square headlights). In terms of performance both cars are nearly identical, although I am more familiar with the S13 chassis. Reliability wise, Nissan are strong cars. When taken care of they'll go on for quite a long time. My S13 has over 300,000 mi right now. It all goes down to how well it was cared for.For $10,000 you should be able to get a pretty damn good 240 and still have cash left to play around with.Hope this helps, but in the future do use the search button. It's there for a reason.

And BTW, expect to get flamed by the veterans on the board.

Why would anyone flame him? Perfectly normal question in my opinion.

Anyways, any 240sx makes a great daily driver. Mine is pretty substantially modified and I drive it 60-70 miles a day. Stock, any 240sx made durring or after 1991 is powered by the same 2.4 liter dual over head cam motor.

its just like their saying. Old nissans are good. If you find any car that looks like crap it usually will most likely run like crap. Like mine

thanks for the warm welcome j spec what are some mild mods I can do to a s14 240 and have it still be real reliable I was thinking maybe a full ehxuast system, cai, and throttle body anything else I can do becuase I know I wont get forced induction unless its like a 50 or 75 shot of the giggle gas

Welcome to nico.... i have a 1996 s14/240sx/zenki but personally i think the kouki looks faster bc o the agressive looking front

No need for a bigger throttle body, infact, 300zx guys use 240sx throttles as an upgrade. To start I would fix little broken things, and refresh the engine with a oilchange, good oil filter, fuel filter, and air filter, new spark plugs and an new O2 sensor. A coolent and transmission fluid flush would also help things. Suspension mods are what makes a 240sx fun to drive: shocks, springs, brake pads and a good set of tires will drastically improve the cars all around performance.

what is the diffrence between the ka and sr?

also what are the dyno numbers for most s14s stock?

No...SR20DET is a 2.0 Liters 4 cylinder turbo engine. Anywhere from 210hp to 245hp at the crank depending on the application.KA24E is a SOHC that came in 89-90 240's.KA24DE is the DOHC version of the same engine. It came in 240's 91 and above with slight variations.Other popular engine swaps for the S chassis are the RB20DET, RB25DET, RB26DETT, CA18DET.Sorry about telling you that you would get flamed. sorry for all the dumb questions... right now i have a 03 mustang cobra and needless to say its a whole diffrent world.

so im just trying to learn a little about the 240s to see if i should get one for a daily driver.

what is the fastest year stock im guessing any 91 in up since its dohc... once agian sorry if this is a dumb question

wow 300k? Thats way up there. Has the engine or transmission been rebuilt or swapped?

I just swapped the engine at 298,000mi. It's not because the old one died, I was building this one to get turboed but then the daily driver died so I just got a set of headers and made it a daily driver...

Stock 91 and up 240's are all rated at 155hp. I dont think that one year would be faster then another, S13 are slightly lighter so they could be considered quicker i suppose. 91 through 98 all have pretty much the exact same engine, just that some are newer and some are not.
