DO ARIZONA Z CAR BRAKES.... THEY ARE HUGE WILWOOD ASSEMBLIES, LIGHTER THAN THE Z SETUP AND WITH MORE STOPPING POWER.

the only reason i can think of NOT to keep 4-lug is that it's very hard to find 4-lug wheels that will not only clear Z32 brakes but also not rub against a set of coilovers. it's not so hard if you pick up some skinny wheels, but then what's the point of Z32 brakes and coilovers?

in my opinion, for the money it would cost to convert to 5-lug and buy 5-lug wheels, get a nice set of 4-lug wheels. it's probably a LOT cheaper.

and if you don't like that answer, and want to go cheaper still, get a set of 4-lug wheels in 15" or larger with a reasonable offset to clear coilovers and do a Q45 brake upgrade instead. somewhat cheaper than Z32, but the big difference is that the Q45's will clear just about any wheel since they are sliding calipers not fixed w/ opposing pistons.

BTW those brakes from ArizonaZCar look very nice. if i wanted to spend $800 on brakes i'd get those. unfortunately i refuse to spend more than ~$300 or so, so Z32's or Q45's will have to do. it's not like i'll EVER have a chance to fade either teh Z32's or the Q45's. at least not without a massive turbo .

ive seen z32 brakes fit under 15s, its possible with the right set of wheels. 4 lug wheels aren't hard to find in a nice size or setup, its only hard to be different as there are only like 2 wheels on the market that are really popular, fno1rc and grenade gx1(i think??), i have the fno1rc, they're great size, but everyone has them.

yeah, well, everybody has them because they look fu**ing SEXY on 240's. i'd rock 'em. i don't care what everybody else has. i just care what mine looks like. and for me, i think i'd go stock wheels + 26mm Z32's or Q45's. i like the sleepy look. nice wheels are too attractive in a big city if you know what i mean. they like to grow legs . . .

my 4 lugs will clear 30mm z32 brakes when i get them, and coilovers when i get those too

now i just need the brakes and coilovers

by the way for my wheels you can call tire rack and see if they ever will have them again but i doubt it

i'll one-up you. i've pretty much settled on '97+ Q45's. ~$400 gets you 11.6" rotor, twin-piston caliper with plenty more piston area. try to fade those, if you can. must have 16" wheels, BTW.

there arent much disadvantages to a 4 lug compared to the 5lug, imo..

just keep the 4lug and go with a 16" wheel + z32 brakes, instead of going out and swapping hubs for the 5lug and shiz.. just more pita work.

and more money. even if you get NICE 4-lug wheels to clear huge brakes and all, it's still cheaper than going 5-lug.

But also keep in mind that doing 5lug can allow you to replace all wheel bearings at the same time.

Wheel bearings do indeed go bad. Chances are, many of these older 240sx cars could use new bearings...

perhaps. but wheel bearings aren't expensive either. if you go 5-lug, it's for the bling. i think skyline or 300zx wheels look sweet on the 240. but i don't have the dough. for god's sakes i bought a 240!

If you're a smart shopper, a 5 lug conversion isn't a big deal at all.

I bought a wrecked 300zx 2+2 for $300(no motor), pulled all of the brake equipment off of it, the rear hubs, and the differential, and turned around and sold the shell for $250, and the differential for another $175. I bought the front spindles at the junkyard off of an S14 SE for $75 with 30K miles on them.

If you add it up, I actually got a 5 lug upgrade, 4 wheel Z32 brakes, and made $50.

nice way to go about it, but i don't have a place for another car unless i bought a storage unit or something. i'm only allowed 1 parking space here. i've talked to a lot more people who spent $1000+ on 5-lug + Z32 brakes than people who did it for poor man's money. if i saw a whole Z32 going for $300, i'd probably buy it on the spot. but i'ver never seen anything like that.

Man I was worried that the future coilovers would not fit, I just picked up 4 lug 17.5 all around.

Yes wheel selection is increases tenfold! But I know for my car bling factor has nothing to do with it. I found the perfect wheel. Clears 30mm Z brakes, fits the OEM size tire that just-so-happens to be available in R compound, and are completely under the radar. Like a couple other pieces on my car, they came from a newer S chassis, so they seem right at home.

Luck seems to play a big role in how much people pay for their 5lug kit. You either spend the money up front, or spend the extra time finding the lowest possible price. In the end it's a wash I suppose... happy hunting gents!

yes but even stock hubcap wheels clear the 11" Q45 calipers and i'm toying with the idea of I30 rear brakes to not have to deal with the integral drum parking brake. i keep tabs on local deals on possible 5-lug swaps but barring any especially good deals i'll stick with sliding calipers. BTW i don't run stock wheels, i run 16" aluminum blah wheels. hello, 11.6" Q brakes . . .
