Joe Biden, campaigning in Missouri, committed a monster political gaffe....

Recognizing state Senator Chuck Graham, he calls out to recognize him in front of the crowd:

"Chuck Graham, stand up! Good to see ya! Ohhh... God love ya...."

One problem:

Meet Chuck Graham.

HA HA HA! You made my day Greg.

That's Biden's main problem is that he has diarrhea of the mouth. It's going to PWN him for reals one of these days.

Wasn't "taking a shot".

Now that you mention it though...

It was a dumbass thing to say... If he, being the veteran pol that he is, didn't realize Graham was disabled... How much more is he clueless about?

I mean, the guy is sitting RIGHT in front of him!

I'd much rather he make a gaffe like that, speaking from the cuff, than be so structured and rigidly politically correct that he ceases to be a regular human being. It obviously wasn't intentional. He probably just had a list of names in front of him to recognize and didn't really know him.

Unfortunately, by tomorrow some sleazeball in the McCain campaign is going to turn it into a giant "Biden intentionally insults Americans with disabilities" television commercial.

If so, I'll publicly come out against it AND email the McCain Campaign with disapproval.

I think he played it off well, and I actually kinda feel for him - What an OOPS that was... LOL

When Biden realized his mistake, he walked over to Chuck and told the crowd, "STAND UP FOR CHUCK!" They went wild.

Why does everything have to be an attack? Just going off the title, you couldn't come up with that. I see that and I think oh, something different, and I was hoping to get a laugh out of something or maybe a free trip to the Atlantis.

Yeah, I could have EASILY turned this into a "Biden hates the handicapped" thread...

Just sharing a LOL with the people who can appreciate it for what it is.

I heard about this on NPR yesterday morning. I LOLed.

They played the audio from the whole thing, and yeah, I gotta hand it to Biden -- it was a major athlete's tongue moment but he did recover beautifully.

EDIT: By the way, Greg -- this is the best thread title I've seen this week.

Just shows he's a normal dude that makes mistakes like the rest of us...still funny though. I wish more people could find either humor or understanding when these types of things are said etc.

The slandering and posturing done by both parties and the media is ALL in bad taste. It reflects negatively on the entire Nation IMO...

I'd be a floundering idiot in front of that many people

Yes, indeed!

The problem is the apathetic voters in this country ... who are now driven by sound bites. Positives ones are not remembered, negative ones stick.

Sad.

Couldn't agree more...

We are a society educated by the media. Unfortunately they all seem to forget that the media is going to show only whats going to get viewers and up the ratings. It's not the "Holy Grail" when it comes to factual information. Quite often it's the opposite...which sucks because it's the widest spread source of information available to the public.

Please refer to my post in the "entitlement" thread. I still say that if we only gave each candidate $1 million to fund their entire campaign (and if we didn't allow anyone to act on the candidates "behalf"), we'd see a lot more talk about the issues and a lot less finger-pointing.

So Biden tries to back peddle his ignorant statement by "playing it off" as if he meant that the crowd should stand? Slimey! Then the crowd cheered? Even worse!

See, this is why Democrats are a danger to society. They seem to think that making up their own reality is okay. Power + delusions = 9/11

If McCain did this, I know the thread would be violent.

Of course it would. They'd have called him uninformed, out of touch, maybe even accused him of making fun of the handicapped.

No, that's not how it happened. He admitted his goof, apologized, and by that time the crowd was on its feet applauding Graham.

That is a blatant troll statement and an utter a$$ thing to say. Never mind that the attacks were carried out while a Republican was CIC. I agree with you on a a lot of issues, wing, but that's not constructive.
wingFeather wrote:If McCain did this, I know the thread would be violent.
Wing, you are good when you debate. Don't stoop to the smear level.
