:help Hey, im really getting interested in the 240sx and silvia, all kinds, S13-15. For graduation, my parents have told me they'd help me buy a new car, with money from my current one (get about 5.5k), summer jobs (1k), and im hoping they will give me about 10-12k. So maybe about 15-16000 to buy and work on my new car, which will have to last until i can buy a car on my own...after college. Id be interested on any advice people could give me on where to look other than ebaymotors.com and autotrader.com, how much i should expect to pay, what things i should look out for when selecting my car, stuff like that. Also, which model of 240/silvia is the best, performance wise (which is best stock, and which has the most potential). Im hoping i can find a 240 that already has the RB20DET or RB24DET engine in it, but, ill take whatever i can find :) feel free to email me at [email protected] , or just reply here. Ill take any and all advice concerning 240s, thanks a lot :help

You can do a lot with a lot of money... but you need to learn everything first. that comes by reading all the forums... searching... and asking questions. Don't be shy, we're all friendly here.

And you'll change your mind every other week about what you want to do to the car... so be prepared for that.. and keep an open mind.

id definately search through the Cars/Trucks For Sale forum to your left, they have swapped 240's for 6k all day. i know there is a ~400 hp s13 for like 9k. check it out, youll be surprised what you can do with over 10k.

First know that an RB 240 as a daily driver is very risky. You might consider keeping your old car and making your 240 a weekend/project car. And as for which to get between S13/S14 is really about preference. From what ive hear the S15 is the best of the three, but a true S15 is probably impossible to get, even with your money. So go out and test drive both the S13 and S14. Pick out what you like. And dont completely listen to people that says one car is better then the other. Test out the cars for yourself and youll hopefully make a much more personal decision.

My advice, buy a stock 240 and build it. Best way to learn about Sr's or RB's. Because if you buy one already swapped and something breaks and you don't know **** about it, it's going to cost you. Also, don't spend every cent you have. You'll fall into the trap many of us are in and be broke as hell. I'd spend at max 10-12k. set the other 3-4k aside for investments, or future purchases, or at least $1000 for an (o' **** I can't believe that I broke that/ that's going to be alot to fix fund). Cause having a broke *** car with no money to fix it sucks. I say this from first hand experiance. don't spend all the money on one thing. It's a bad bad Idea just my 2 cents take it for what it's worth Scott

Well it's always good to have extra money aside to fix a car, swap or no swap. You get what you pay for, and if you shell out the big bucks in the beginning, that usually means less problems later on. Pay the extra for a rebuild and replacing whatever needs to be replaced. After all, it IS a Nissan! :D

For $10-15k you should be able to get a well built s14 that has already been swapped. Make sure the swap has been done by a reputable shop (Heavy Throttle, etc) and try to get the paperwork that came with it. As far as engines go, KA-T, SR, or RB can all make plenty of hp. Look for upgraded turbos, fuel management, suspension, etc to see what suits you best and what parts may need to be replaced soon. It is also advantageous to have a compression test done and have the car checked out by someone who knows what they are doing (maybe a reputable shop that performs the swap often, a regular Nissan tech won't know much about SRs or RBs). Read up about the engines on the SR, RB, KA-T, CA (sorry CA guys, forgot to mention it earlier) forums to determine which you prefer and what to look out for when purchasing it. When you decide what you are looking for, post the info about it so that the local experts can give you some advice on what to watch out for.

Also, if you have that kind of money you may want to look into other cars besides a 240. Don't get me wrong, I love my 240, but if I had $15k I'd be looking at 3000GT VR-4s, 300ZX TT's, etc as well. Perhaps an illegally modified car is not your best decision for practicality or reliability. 240's are rock solid in their stock form, but when you swap out the engine you can't help but introduce loads of new problems.

Regardless of your decision, best of luck to you and I hope you get the car you're looking for!

Thanks very much to all of you guys, ill seriously consider all of your advice. As for people concerned about me just wanting to buy power and no nothing about cars, no worries there. My best friend owns a 99 300gt vr4, and ive helped him get his car almost to full bpu. My other best friend has a 95 supra (yeah....i know, im jealous of them both too). Anyways, id much rather buy a stock car, or one nothing more than bpu, than some 500hp monster. Anyways, thanks again for all the advice, anything else you guys got will be appreciated ;)

due to some of the comments ive seen you post, i highly doubt you are putting out 500-600hp. no offense, but i think youre full of crap. if you want to back it up, please email me your dyno graph at [email protected]

Yeah, i thought about an RX-7 and i wanted one for a long time, as they are incredibly beautiful and performe extremely well, with high mod capability. two things though. first, forced air induction (as from a turbo, which would be the only kind of rx7 worth buying) causes a rotary engine to spin a little off, and the engine wears down pretty quickly. most all rx7s you'll see are on their second engine by around 55k miles, and anything around 100k miles on its third. plus, oil problems have been a noted problem in a lot of rx7s. second, im going to college, and though i do want a smallish sports car, rx7s are tiny! absolutely no room at all. at least something like a 240 or Eagle Talon Tsi awd/ Eclipse GSX has a little of room. And to the guy that says he has 500-600hp, id love to see your setup, cuz agree with whiterps13, i think you're full of it. any 240 with that much power isnt going to be a daily driver anyways, itd be a strict drag car, which isnt what 240s are best at anyway...they're incredible drifters, and decent draggers, but thats besides the point. i dont need quite that much, especially not right away. anyways, thanks again for advice guys, keep it comin!! :-D
