It seems like every month there's a plethora of new Wangan related questions. My posting is going to focus on the fastback variations, but I welcome anyone to make an organized listing for the coupes.

First we have the Bomex/PDM Racing style.

Then there's the B-Wave style.

There are a few variations of this, the Actual B-Wave being one of the largest and squarest. The knock offs have rounded edges and generally don't stick out as far.

Then there's the BMagic style.

It looks a lot like the Bomex/PDM spoilers, but it has a notch cut out for the rear wiper. There are also others that have a hook like area cut out for the antenna, but I'm not sure what variation these are, so they'll go with the BMagic group for now.

Next we have Veilsides offering.

The first one in my opinion is a mixture of the B-wave, and the Bomex. It doesn't extend down like the B-wave, and the lip on it isn't as pronounced as the Bomex.

The next Veilside offering is arguably not a wangan wing. I say it is, and this is my post, so go to hell...

That's all I have for the time being. Like I said, so long as you keep it organized, please feel free to expand.

There is also the Ken Style wing, curvy whale tail style. Lip does not protruded as much as the B-wave or others. Also has the loop for the antenna.

So is Wangan a style? I always thought it was the name of the company that made them. What does wangan mean?

That's pretty much it, and these spoilers came from designs of said cars. It's supposed to lower the drag coefficient. I have no idea if ours do though. It most likely that the actual design came about due to the older 911s with that massive wing.

Short of a wind tunnel, the only way were going to know if it's actually doing anything is going down a dirt road without it, looking at the dust that collects around the tail lights and such, and repeating with it on. If there's less dust, then it's actually getting rid of the vortex that forms around the rear of the car thus lowering drag...

Never seen this one before, is from the australian web site. Maybe a specific piece for the australian market.

Interesting, I have been wondering what Wangan was since we got a 240sx and found this site. I, too, had assumed it was the company that created the first one but now am properly educated. BTW, as a long-time Porsche guy, we just called this class of wing ducktail spoilers. The 1974 911 Carrera RS made the ducktail famous and it just kept growing and growing until it became the whale tail.

lowering drag and improving the downforce, kinda.

im liking this thread, but it should definitely be expanded to showcase some coupe varieties as well.

ive been looking for something for mine, but a lot of them seem like theyre too angled upwards.

Bullitt_S13, where did you find that picture? I've been looking on NS on and off all day, and can't find that car on there anywhere.

amolao, can you find more pictures of that wing? I'd like to get as many angles as I can.

drift-n-crash-180, any idea who makes that?

7x13xRPS13Like I said, I'm pretty sure this is what started it all early to mid 80s in Japan. To be a true "Wangan", it has to maintain this shape. I really don't think it's for downforce, just to lower drag coefficient.

The Porsche duck tails and whale tails were installed for downforce (and additional cooling to the rear-mounted engine) on the 911s. Any such spoiler by definition will create more drag and thus reduce top speed. However, if the car loses traction at high speed and leaves the road then it's all over anyway.

I can't believe there are so many variations of such an ugly wing.

To each his own. You're like that guy that goes to a public bathroom, gets caught looking at another mans wang, and violently call him a ***. No one's holding a gun to your head to click on this thread, and I thought the title was pretty self explanatory.

On the Porsches yes, Porsche actually tested their design though, the wangan wings are nothing more than a copy of the style. From what I understand, on a fastback, the air flow doesn't flow down the back glass, rather it parts ways somewhere near the top. You'll notice this when there is rain on the rear glass, and it stays there even at highway speeds. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure some company somewhere has aero tested and designed a wangan wing around it, but the only way you're going to get good down force generation with our cars is with a GT style wing.

So that was you in the next urinal. Sorry man, I only snuck a peek because I was curious as to the mechanics of pissing with such a small tool. That must have something to do with your affintity to the big wing,... compensation.

Here is a Wangan coupe wing:

It is a decklid 3-piece spoiler. Why don't you just get one from PDM?

Touche'. Never had any complaints though, well, there was that one time, but that was literally like throwing a pencil down a hallway. I dubbed her manwich... Not sure what she did to get that way, but I'm pretty sure it involved parking a VW Bug.

Can't really say I buy or like things due to the impression I think it will give people about my manhood. I like what I like, and I try to help others that share the same interests. I don't really force my opinion on people. I am however quick to call out bull****... Either way, keep talking about my wang, I'll let you know when I feel a sting, or feel aroused... It seems like a win win situation...

I'm pretty sure that one is just called the GP Sports 3-piece wing...I'm pretty sure its the only one like that. I will definitely be rocking that wing when I get some money and decide when I will finish the body work. (haha that pic is actually the background on my phone lol)
