(Disclaimer: This is more of a vent/rant than it is a lesson in what NOT to do) .

So it's Saturday night. I'm over at a friend's apartment for a LAN gaming night. After messing around with some online games and discussing the latest in politics and how we're all going to hell, we get down to business and get our geeky butts on our PCs.

At some point in the night we all heard a loud BOOM! We all figured it was either lightening, or well, some random loud bang, but didn't care enough (tight game of Supreme Commander, after all!) to go out to the balcony and investigate.

I come out 2 hours later and find this gift:

The rear bumper was literally just placed right behind my car. Ripped clean off. The muffler came off one hanger on the right side as well, hanging crooked.

After seeing me raging at the scene of my car, a family who had witnessed the accident told me some big pickup truck swerved past 2 women crossing the close by intersection, and then 30-40 feet down the lane rammed straight into my car. My coupe was parked on the right hand side parking spots, a little slanted from perpendicular to the road, could have been anyone's car that took the hit. They said the man was shirtless, tanned (probably had been at the complex's pool party), looked drunk (stumbling) when he got out of the truck. This made me rage hardcore inside. The kind where you look calm on the outside and even smirk at the bad luck. But inside it was like someone lit a fire.

KIDS, IF YOU FEEL THE NEED TO KILL YOUR FKING BRAIN CELLS BY CONSUMING LARGE AMOUNTS OF ALCOHOL, DON'T FKING DRIVE YOUR GOD DAMN CAR OR I WILL SMASH YOUR FKING RED FACE IN WITH MY TIRE IRON.

Just last year some moron accelerated his Infinit QX4 from a stop about 15 ft away at a red light (we were both stopped at first) into my car's rear bumper thinking the light turned green (WTF??), ruining the bumper along with the trunk lid, tail light and quarter panels. Now barely a year later this happens... mother fking s***.

Back to Saturday night; this grade A a**-hole/feking idiot had the nerve and enough wits to wreck my car, then quickly disappear into the apartment complex where I was parked. Thanks to the eyewitnesses that happened to be driving by, a cop was on the scene an hour or so before I got to my car, looking for this prick. The cop handed me a chit with the case # and said since this is a HIT & RUN but not a criminal act, it will take some time, but due to the good leads I should hear something from the police soon. Hmm...

For now, I'm driving a rental TOYOTA Yaris after dropping the Altima off at the service center. Damn tiny little thing with idiotic centered gauge cluster. Bah. :bang

This all happened at my apartments. He was visiting me and when I heard the noise I thought it was thunder, should have looked more intently, ha... But yes, this guy high tailed it out of there and drove his truck into his garage and hid in his apartment. The cop even said he banged on the guys door but he wouldn't answer. He knows he's screwed.

Damn, Thats B.S! Sorry to hear that, I would probably feel the same. and track down his car later down the road to show how much I appreciated it lol :(! I hate how many irresponsible drivers there are out there, let alone the ones that dont know how to drive or dont give a sh*t! I may go out with my boys, but I'm usually driving cuz I dont really drink and I know better then them in that regard. One got a DWI years ago, and is paying big time for it even today! I cant chance something like that :(! Besides the fact you can really hurt someone! I guess the thing is people these days think they can get away with anything if they aren't caught. In this case I'm glad they found the aswipe ;)!

J/K man, this blows. Whats worse is that he wont get the DWI that he deserves. A DWI can quite literally ruin your life. He needs this.

Just got the call from the service center with the estimate etc.

Thanks to Mr. Fk Face the muffler and gaskets etc. will also need to be replaced....and since this is my original ebay custom catback exhaust, I had to explain to the service rep that they'd have to replace the entire catback if they wanted to replace just the muffler, due to the ebay exhaust piping being routed different to the muffler. PHAKing shat.

There was tons of other small stuff damaged in the estimate run down, that I'm not happy about.

This fker is going to pay up once the popo get his a**.....

CoupeVO35SVT,

Sincere condolences on this unfortunate event. Also, want to assure you I was nowhere near the scene of the crime that night, wherever it was :-).

All seriousness aside, please tell us more about developments. Always good for the Forum to know about dealings with insurance companies, etc.

Be sure to talk to your agent about an adjustment for "diminished value" of your car. No mater how well done the repair, it will never be the car it was just before that knuckle dragger hit it and any pro will be able to spot it and beat you up over trade in value.

And just when you thought things could not get worse, you have had to sneak around on back streets in a Yaris. Oh, the humanity...

Best wishes and keep in touch.

Ok hadn't logged on in several days.

So I got a call from the collision/service center that my car is ready yesterday. I was at work so I went in this morning to pick it up, eager to see what all has been fixed, and the left over fun bits for me to OCD over for the rest of the car's life.

Well unfortunately, they had forgotten to retouch one of the rear mudguard bits that was scratched up, who knows what the lady was trying to tell me the excuse was, but I pointed that out and also that it was not attached in good shape with the bumper's contour. Item #2 was my gear shift knob inside, which looked like had been scraped/scuffed with some hard object and had a bit of a peel on the right side. I don't know what they needed to do inside but I imagine there must have been something they needed access to...
Item #3, the little piece that sticks on the truck, just above the license plate, was not stuck on just right.

I spent 10 minutes there looking my car over and had found these things that needed to be re-fixed....Nothing like a bit of a downer but at least they're going to take care of it in a couple odd more days according to them (something about ordering a new gearshift knob taking the most time possibly).

As for the exhaust situation (I guess I didn't mention it before?) - they wanted to replace the muffler with a new - OEM - one due to the left side tip ripping out from the muffler around the weld. I clarified it is a custom exhaust (my ebay kit) and don't want it replaced with OEM. They offered to pay for the aftermarket kit if I ordered one and have it installed at a muffler shop.

So singing Obama's tune (har har) about Change, after much deliberation this ended up in my mailbox...

Ranga14 recommended I ask PRT performance here in Lewisville about doing a custom fab/muffler install for me which they agreed. Why the custom work? The ebay catback is routed differently than an OEM setup, and the Borla axleback muffler is also setup to receive the inlet from the proper OEM direction - a little 2.5" custom piping will be necessary.

Now the wait is on to get my car back in a couple of days so I can get the exhaust installed before the end of the week.

FYI the asswipe hasn't been caught yet due to no actual evidence yet, but the investigator said he found the truck that hit me and said the truck's insurance company should be able to compensate me for the repair bill as opposed to me paying my deductable ($500) and using my insurance, which is what I had done.

On a lighter note the terribly tiny and moronic Yaris has performed well under my demanding repertoire of hard acceleration and cornering, along with providing the added economic "bonus" of 31 MPG average as opposed to the paltry 22-23 MPG I get with my coupe. ;) Ok so the truth is, my Coupe will never feel the same after this accident, and I AM probably F'd when I try to trade it in at some point due to this b.s. but I can't wait to get it back and put up some exhaust sound clips of the new Borla and hear it purr again. ;)

Pictures and junk to follow once that's all done.

Yes, yes! As a lawful American Muslim I find your advice to be highly delightful... However, next time I want a 1 way ticket to perma vacation @ Gitmo Bay and c*ckmeat sandwichs I'll be sure to hit up your advice column.

Just kidding. The cop said they can't prove who the actual driver at the time was since the only eye witness misidentified the person during a "photo" lineup (so I assume the witness pointed out to one of the fakes the cop knew). So unless the driver from that night admits to it, unfortunately nothing might happen..and he'll get away with it.

As for talking to my agent about the diminished value of the car - good point. Not sure what I'll get out of it, but since I had that concern from the get go, it won't hurt to ask.

Yes it was a buy a $600 cap, get exhaust free day at Borla!

So it's all repaired and the Borla installed. I ended up having the shop replace the entire eBay catback (including resonator...good thing too) yesterday and had him custom build a 2.5" exhaust from the Y-pipe down to the Borla muffler flange.

Basically, it's much quieter than my ebay brand system (despite the ebay one having a resonator, though smaller muffler...) and has a bit more deeper drone at 1500~ RPM under regular acceleration. It almost sounds too tame which is completely the OPPOSITE of what I thought I was hearing with all the other youtube videos of Altima coupes with Borla mufflers. Kind of a let down, but I'm sure I'll get used to this. Did Borla change their muffler setup for the Altima exhaust? The piping looks like everyone else's from what I can find, so why is mine completely not gutsy like these other videos?

Here's the clip I took last night real quick, with my camera phone. Damn bugs were noisier than the car, so I apologize for that. Hopefully I'll get better audio soon.

Sounds pretty fierce to me honestly. I have plans to get the new borla exhaust someday.
