I was headed down the 55 to Costa Mesa on Wednesday. It was about 11am so the freeway was wide open. I looked back in my rearview mirror to see the same green, 4 door, wide wheel equipped 510 that I had been seeing on and off while on the 405. It was very well taken care of, down to the original 510 emblem on the back, every chrome piece chromed, and even the stock steel hubcaps attached to some of the widest 15 inch wheels I've ever seen.

At about 60 I dropped it into 4th as he came along side. As the engine flew toward 6000+ RPMs, he was still pulling on me. Luckily there's a stop light at the end of the 55, so he had to stop long enough for me to figure out what the hell he had under the hood.

It was a 2.2 with 50mm TWM throttle bodies. It kinda made me sad that I traded my old 510 for a 240. Then I realized, I can still tune a lot more horsepower out of the current setup. So at that point, getting smoked was kinda cool.

I like 510's. In certain ways more than the 240, in others, not so much.

It's classic, and classically good looking, RWD, well-balanced, light, and very nostalgic for some.I'd personally like to have one if I had a ton of money and a lot of cars. :)Mmm...510 with an FJ20ET... :drooling

somebody done slapped the spelling out of this thread!

oh yeah, 510's rock hard! price is dependent on condition and location for the most part.

up in NY I'm betting it'd be costly for you to find one in good condition though.

i've always loved the 510's, it's a true road racing nostalgia car and a classic in every sense of the word. if the one i was looking at hadn't fallen through i would be rocking a black `72 2 door with SCCA legal cage, 280z suspension components, 20 gallong fuel cell, and lots of other goodies. man that guy pissed me off when he said he was going to cut it in half to save another one of his 510's from rust.

Well 1der in the city yes, but where I live now cars arent beat on as much as they do down there. People keep their cars in pretty good condition up here. I havent seen any S10s yet, but Ive seen a few S12s. More crappy than good condition ones. I guess If I really looked I caould find a descent one.

These are NOT ugly cars. Lots of people consider them to be the working mans version of an early 70's BMW 2002.

Here's an interesting "take off"

Best Use :)

Simply done

Okay, this BONE STOCK one looks kinda ugly

510's won't be cheap anymore. It kinda sucks how this f and f crap has made all these weird import cars' prices go up so much.

510's are light and can be one hell of a sleeper. I've seen a 510 with a built CA18DET and wow, that sucker was fast.

When I was driving a 510, I'd always have random people at stoplights and in parking lots asking if the car was for sale. At least a couple of times a month someone would ask if it was for sale. My last one was primer grey, bondo'd, no interior, but mechanically and suspensionally hooked up. I didn't want to sell it, but once just for the heck of it I told a guy I'd let him have it for $3000.

His eyes got really big and excited and he wanted me to follow him to the bank so he could get the cash out for me.

As I said, I like my 240 better, but no one ever wants to buy it. The 510 handled a lot better though.
