Hmm, I only hear mine if I'm checking my rear tire pressure, or adjusting my rear shocks. I've never heard a supercharger type whine coming form it.

The Walbro 255 in my Civic has made that same whine for the last 50k miles- it's normal. Everyone complains about how loud they are.

Mine makes a very loud whine as well...and my rear interior is completely gutted, so it's pretty annoyingly loud. Oh well.
