I'm thinking about going to a Walbro 255LPH fuel pump.

However, I've heard rumors of some things to be aware of.

1) Will lower the cars MPG.

This doesn't make sense to me as the Fuel Pressure Regulator is suppose to .. ahem.. regulate the pressure. You're cycling the same fuel quicker, but not sure why it would cause a loss in economy.

2) Car will run richer.

Related to 1, I suppose.

3) Can't let the gas tank fall below 1/4 of a tank otherwise you start starving the fuel pump.

Can anyone here comment on these things, specifically 3?

Thanks!

P.S. Sorry for the double post in the Online Mechanic threads, but I realized this would be a better place for this question.

Your car will be fine with a walbro. I've had one in my car for 4 years now no issues

My car still makes 28-30 mpg city (SR20DET T-25 13psi) and 33 highway.

I'm the kind of guy that enjoys maxing a tank of gas to E. I've had small stutters develop nearing the E line, but nothing that has caused damage to any components.

# 3 is a myth imo. Had mine go out 3 months ago but the pump was in my car since 2001 and I've hit the E light quite a few times.

That myth about the fuel going too low is only on s14's. There is no walbro kit for the s14 per say. You need to run a 97 prelude walbro sock with the s13 walbro pump. The sock on the s14 needs to angle down and the other direction for it to work correctly.

Been running mine since early spring. I did however fork out for an adjustable FPR, and had a set of extra injectors cleaned and flowed at a local fuel injection specialist before installing.Have always gotten crappy mileage (about 22) and that has not changed.I usually fill up at 220-250 miles on the trip meter so thats about the low end of a 1/4 tank. No issues regarding the pump to date.
