I have a Walbro 255lph fuel pump in my s13... running an rb20 with stock fpr and z32 fuel filter. I installed the walbro 255lph and apparently my gas tank was rusty at the time. I had drained all the old gas out and didn't really notice any loose rust fragments or anything. A week after the instal the pump starting whining, and it got louder. I pulled it to find the strainer on the pump clogged with rust particles.

I then proceeded to drop the gas tank, empty the gas, clean it out best i could and got out all the rust I could and cleaned the strainer as well but I couldn't get all the rust out... After putting the tank and pump back in it ran fine for about a week then started cutting off at more than 30% throttle again... boggging sort of. Same whining came back along with the bogging type of behavior when given more than 30% throttle.

I'm pretty sure I cleaned the tank enough but I have a feeling that the strainer has some rust stuck in it and I cant seem to clean it. I tried CLR and a bunch of other stuff to get the rust out and get rid of the redness in the filter but it wouldn't clear up 100%. I can't find a walbro 255 replacement sock filter/strainer anywhere... and im not trying to buy another pump anytime soon.

If anyone could help me out here... like where I could get a replacement filter for it or one that fits on the walbro from a different pump that would really help. Even some way to clean my strainer that actually works would work. This is the only thing holding this car back all other loose ends have been sorted out so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If the sreen clogged up again, you should look into your tank issue. A used tank in better condition or using Naval Jelly (sp) to coat the interior of the tank might be necassary.

I don't have a Walbro myself, but you may bee able to match up the filter sock with another one carried in a parts store.

Yeah thats what I was planning to try but the thing is im pretty sure my tank is fine, its just that i couldnt really clean out all the stuff out of the filter so its pretty much done from the first time it got clogged.

Ill probably take it off the pump today and bring it to some parts stores and see if there are any similar style ones i could use :P.

you should just check if you side mount inter-cooler or FMI, is leaking air. check every section that is a hosed attached. most likely its that.

I actually already checked it and i have no boost leaks, the thing is... the pump started whining so i took it out and noticed the filter had rust in it. Thats when i cleaned out the tank and the filter as much as i could and put them back in, ran fine for a week then it started bogging again but not as bad. I think the filter still had rust in it from the first time it got clogged because i wasnt able to clean it out all the way.

Do the walbro fuel pump filter/strainers come apart somehow? Like could I open it and clean wats inside the sock... because theres still redness showing and it feels like the little tunnel leading into the fuel pump is being blocked by rust/dirt from the first time it was clogged.

Im going to take the filter out and see if i could match up one at the autoparts store with the same mounting style... If that doesnt work i was thinking about cutting the strainer open at the base, clean it out then melt/glue it back together or something... I cant think of anything else because they dont sell these damn strainers separately... not from walbro or any other company.. it sucks.

Again the symptoms are that the car cuts off when given more than 20% throttle due to low fuel pressure/ lack of fuel... because of the clog in the strainer. If anyone else has any other ideas please throw em at me im down to try anything! :P
