I played MGO when it went beta live a few months ago. The main problem I have is the slow camera motion to aim with. I'm used to computer shooters, which have much faster response times. The slower response definitely hinders myself, and quite a few other people I've known to play.

All in all, MGO is ok. I wouldn't buy it as a seperate game, but as a free add-in, I can't complain. My biggest gripe with it would be the absurd number of log in names you need. I completely forgot what my ID name from the beta was and it took forever to get my konami ID and game ID straight.

Also, I beat the single player over the weekend. I have to say that the end was very satisfying.

Also, MGS4 made me hate MGS2 just a little less.

What do you think they are going to say? That's up to you. I wouldnt buy it just for MGS if that's all you want though.

It's too bad its so short. My buddy beat it 3 days ago: http://www.digitalsomething.co....html

If you're a fan of the series, you'll enjoy the game. If you've had your reservations over previous entries, I wouldn't stress getting it. The game is either loved (fanboi) or hated (critics and people who don't like metal gear on a metaphysical level)

One reviewer put it best: This review isn't for those that like Metal Gear. They already think it's the best thing ever.

I like MGS gameplay (except the controls which I assume they would have changed) but it feels like everytime i'm getting into the game someone calls on the codec and rambles on for 10min about something I could have figured out myself or some weird crap happens that just makes me go wtf??? My favorite MGS game story wise was #1, my favorite mgs for gameplay was MGS2 Subsistence because it just let you loose in a series of puzzle like enviroments without having to put up with Vampires, Homosexual Russians that shoot electricity, Fat guys that shoot bumblebees at you, or any other nonsense that makes me

I replayed the opening to MGS 1, and for gameplay, the game is very dated now.

Long drawn out codec conversations and bogged down technical stories have always been the achilles heel to the MGS series. 3 was awesome in the fact that it was simple. Russians get nuke, go kill them. The info dump at the end really just added another layer to the game that was never elaborated on during the course, but could have been and made a better game.

BTW, I hate info dumps. They are the bane of good story telling, and Kojima thinks that they are the best plot device of all.

MGS1 did the better thing by actually introducing the player to the truth in tidbits throughout the game. That was its primary strength. Liquid had his little speech about being a clone and whatnot, but the bulk of the story's plot was revealed bit by bit instead of one gigantic, unnecessary clump at the end.

Other than the points you touched on the other substantial reason I liked the MGS1 story the best was there were fewer paranormal elements in it. Sure there was Physco Mantis but telepathy is at least mildy based in reality so I can handle that but as soon I was introduced to the Vampire in MGS2 I just couldn't take the game seriously anymore.

Part of Vamp's abilities are explained in 4, but they kind of left a big stinking plot hole about his walking on water ability.

The first one had less paranormal stuff in it, which did root it in reality a bit better. But Vulcan Raven still carried a big *** vulcan cannon around like it was nothing. Decoy Octopus even swapped blood with his target. That alone should have killed him or at least given him some nasty disease.

MGS2 just had some down right retarded villians. Fatman. Come on. Ooh! Look at me! I'm a fatty on roller blades, and I blow stuff up while drinking a fine cabernet. The whole idea of Solidus was just perplexingly stupid. Liquid was a great villian, but Solidus was just beating a dead, cloned horse with an overly obscured, existential stick.

4 Did a good job of making me hate 2 less. Which I thought would never happen. They at least made up for the glaringly bad writing of 2 by retconning some underlying subterfuge to tie all 4 games in the series together.

The nice thing about the bosses in 4 is that they aren't completely out there like 2 and 3's villians were. Everything is more based on sci-fi instead of paranormal (except for screaming mantis)

There are 2 things I remember about MGS2. The first was how absolutely stunning the graphics were for its time, and the other was how equally stupid the story was. I did, however, get a big kick out of the end when the Colonel robot thingy keeps messaging you and saying weird ****. I just sat there for a while and listened to them all. I fell out of my chair when the completely Japanese one came.

I loved the first MGS despite its flaws, it would be hard for any new game to beat it. We all said the same about GTA though, and most people agree that IV is the best iteration of the series so far.
