getting onto the freeway in town, goes from a stop light with two lanes to one after about 1/8 of a mile then goes to freeway... i was waiting at the light minding my own business.. when i ford taurus pulls up next to me.... he revs his stock car, i didnt think much of it.... then at the green he hauls off... i didnt really think much of it at the beginning... but when i heard him pretty much floor it to redline i did the same... i was think i could just stay on his *** all the way to the onramp and then pass him once on the freeway.... i was wrong... got behind him... and he pulled on me ever so slightly through the whole thing ... then for some reason i could see him flip me off ... oh well.... i think if i was manual i would have pulled on him kinda like he pulled on me... thank god thats the next thing im doing

Was it the newer Taurus body style or the older? Just curious.

I don't think it would've mattered if you were an auto or not..btw.

I'm going to assume it was a newer Taurus. My dads old '90 was a an underpowered pig.

Maybe if your wheels weren't so heavy you would have won. :P

at the most it the rs would have a 305 but even still nothing amazing. I also want to know what year taurus. I used to drive a 92 wagon and o my god i think it had 120 or 140hp in a 3000+ car. The newer tauruses (96+)with the 24 valve DOHC V6 are pretty peppy.

A third-gen F-body with the 305 and an automatic isn't much faster than a manual SOHC S13. I know, I owned both. They're also more likely to have been abused early on in their lives.

If it were the V6 you would've moidered him.

yeah my wheels are rather heavy.... im just trying to have a good platform to add power to..... and yes it was a newer style taurus.... soon ill be faster.... so then only the sh|tloads of mustangs and camaros will be beating me... not the normal cr@p...

One time i couldn't keep up with a benign-looking Mazda Protege ES (last model year it was also a stick), although at that time my car didn't have its tuneup yet and its timing was retarded by 5 degrees (makes a big difference, lol). Pretty embarassing nonetheless.

well i would rather just go manual first... im actually gonna try and get a personal loan once i pay off my credit card.... since the two reasons the bank said they wouldnt approve me was that i didnt have 2 years of credit history and i owed too much on my credit card... well im about to have my credit card paid off and i have more than 2 yrs of credit history now so hopefully when i apply again ill get it... i need that money so baad... especially since one of my friend is getting an srt-4 soon and hes gonna rub it in my face every day

I was just kidding with you. If you look in my sig you will see the same wheels on my 240. They look good but they're rather portly. *sigh*

I'm fairly certain mine are hedging in on the 35 pound each mark... with 255's.

I know with out the tires and on my super scientific Wal-Mart Spec bathroom scale the rims alone wieghed in at about 22 pounds each.

stock SE s14 alloys are about 18lbs if i remember right.

I cant believe you couldnt hang with the taurus.. my roommate has an SHO and he walks me like you described, so i'd assume I could beat a standard tarus.

I have a manual and I lost to a car the other day. He jumped a light and I tried to catch up like you described. Over about 1/2 mile he pulled about a car length from when I got on the gas. I was suprised and noticed it was an Acura RL, I didn't know until I got home and looked up "the car that beat me" that I realized it has a 300HP V6. I think I did good considering

Losing to a Dodge Ram 1500 made me decide to do a motor swap instead of fixing my timing chain rattle in my KA. For a smidge more than the cost of the chain etc. I got a CA and havn't lost since.

O wait, I don't street race. Nevermind

I rented an '05 Taurus a while ago. You'd be surprised how quick those new ones are! I definitely prefer my 240, but yeah, a heavy automatic family sedan with a big V6 still has a big V6.
