i've seen those in magazines and stuff. look pretty sweet. i don't think i would drive one right now tho, just because its a large 4-door. i like smaller 4-doors and 2 door's :)

are you saying the car is sweet or just the engine? all the W engines are nice, especially the W18

This car got panned in the one of the magazine runoffs, cannot remember which magazine, but they didn't like it much.

saw that new phaeton the other day , they have 3 up here doing cold weather testing , not a bad car

there doing all kinda testing now , saw 4 lupos,2 golf wagons and a few odd ball beetles , we will never be able to buy the lupo or the golf wagin but its neat to see them

also same day saw some kind of werid arse sports car , looks a hell of alot like a opel speedster , tad smaller than the new MR2 , boath were flat black so i really couldnt get a good look at the lights , the the script on the back was in german so it did me no good at all

I sat in a W8 Passat at the Philly autoshow. The engine is interesting but I have no desire to own one as it'll be surely more expensive to maintain than VW's nice 6 cyl motor which performs almost as well. My opinion is Veedub has forgotten the demographic that buys their cars. The $60K Phaeton looks like a big Passat and will compete directly against VW's own Audi A6/A8. Dumb. VW division should stick to the small cars and let Audi sell their upscale ones. just my $.02

Only available in the Bugattis (which VW owns) AFAIK. No VW is produced with that motor. Largest that the VWs come with is a W12 which the actual W12 car that, for a while, was rumored to go into production but still probably won'tThe W8 Passat 4-Motion is OK...a bit much for a "family sedan" if you ask me. And Bubba, you are 100% correct stating that the sale of the Phaeton for 60K is entirely ridiculous as it will (try to) compete with the Audi family, and there is no way in hell anyone in their right mind will pay that much for a Volkswagen. It is a fabulous car...but still a VW. It also will not be sold at every dealer once it is brought to the states; VWAG/VWoA already has a plan to distribute it only to certain dealers that already produce top sales among all dealers in the 50 states.Stonage_Turbo...it is rumored that the Polo will be introduced into the US market within a few years. We had one stateside last July, VW sent it over for us (VWvortex.com) to test out and to gauge consumer reaction to the car, seeing as how the Jetta and GTI keep getting bigger and bigger and VW needs another small car to put on the market (why they can't just keep the current cars small is beyond me, the '93-'98 models were as big as they should have gotten...).Masterman, TonyVQ...you have something wrong with current VW styling? The major demographic that purchases these cars definitely is among the straight crowd...Getting back on topic: as far as the W8 goes, this motor is currently not selling very well in the Passat. VW's new SUV, the Touareg, will come equipped with this motor (along with a V6 case model and a W10 diesel, if approved for the States). I'm sure VW will see better sales of the W8 in the Touareg considering the American affliction with SUVs......not that I'm one to talk since I do own one, but not because it's "cool".I may not know a lot about Infinitis, but start a topic about VWs and I'll keep you guys going for as long as you can stand it :)

Nice to meet another German car fan. I'm active with the Audi club. You can talk about VW's all you want. I like them almost as much as Nissans. When I bought my wife a new sedan in '02, it came down to the Passat and the Altima. I ended up with the Altima. The Audi A-4 was a bit more money than I wanted to pay out. I felt the Passat's fit and finish was a little better than the Altima and handled a little more crisply but the Altima was bigger, a little more soft-sprung felt a little more comfortable. (This is my wife's daily commuter, not mine) The other factor that concerned me about the Passat was maintenance. It seems VeeDub has the Passat designed so that only a dealer can check certain items (like transmission fluid) because they require special tools that they do not sell cheaply (or at all in some cases) to non-VW mechanics. Although not an issue to a person who gets their car serviced at a dealership, it is an issue for someone like me who prefers a private mechanic like me. Wha' 'cha think? Also if I was going to spend $60,000+ on a sedan, I'd rather buy an Audi RS6 before a VW Phaeton. I have a feeling the Phaeton will not sell well. regards
