I have an 89 240 with an idle problem which turns into a power-loss problem when in motion. when tryin' to idle , the car shakes like an old washing machine...and then quits. when i hit the gas , it studders and stumbles until about 2500revs . I had a similar problem in the winter but it would clear up once i was about 10 miles down the road. I have replaced the tps but it had no effect( but tapping the old one stopped the *&##^ before!) can someone out there give me some ideas as to where to look, and how to test?

Maybe your Mass Air Flow Sensor is bad.

If it sounds like a V8 when you start it up and has barely any power then its an Injector

If the car does not rev past 2500 rpms, its your MAF. You'll also notice with your MAF out, that the car bogs while driving(cruising).

With an injector, you can tell right away.

Crank the car up with it doing that, unplug each injector 1 at a time, if the car does not make a change in the way its performing when you unplug a certian injector, then its whatever one you unplugged is bad

in order to start i have to crank it and give it gas..it shakes like the other man said, an old washing machine, but once it gets past 2k rpm its fine..

it goes crazy when its below that and idle..the car is also extremely lazy getting up to speed its weird because after a while of driving everything works fine.

Well guys I'm not brave enough to mess w/ the map or maf if that's what its called . But check this ... my lil rice rat would'nt even start for about 5 min. When it finally did crank up I notice a bit of wetness on that wiring harness that runs along the fuel rail. I picked up on the harness and it started to vibrate like an old washing machine again. So I think that there may be a short somewhere...maybe relating to one of the injectors

I've been through a couple mafs so far, once because I got degreaser in one and the second time it flash flooded on my way to work but yeah at a constant speed it would just buck and smoke black smoke, sounded meaner than the 248/248 cam swap but...

Prices on stock mafs suck.. 322.99 after you give your core back, that's at Autozone btw. Getting one out of a salvage yard would be hit or miss, but I suppose one off a altima or something with the ka would work if ya found one sitting up. OR you might could try that CRC maf sensor cleaner spray, don't know if it will actually repair it though. I don't know much about N62 or z32 mafs but they're an alternative.. I think

Oh btw OP do have the single cam? .. Just curious because I'm having a lot of sudden injector problems right now with it..

Thanks for the help everyone . YO! Gingerbred... I do have a single cam. In this case it seems that the wires I mentioned, were at least in part responsible. One big "zip-tie", and its runnning like what I'm used to. The rice rat is back to normal (of course this was only a quick fix, there is obviously a "short" somewhere) [IMG]
