VTC's on 94J

I was told my Valve Timing Controls are bad on my J. Does my car need them to function properly? I was told that you could "re-configure" the wiring from a maxima forum.What do the Infinity pros think of this procedure?

i wouldnt advise it.

sure, you could disconnect the VTCs so that they are always off, the car would probably run fine, but your intake valve opening and closing times will be retarded, and the valve overlap will decrease. this is fine for idling or high speed, but you will feel a significant loss or torque under accel. or WOT.

Not to mention the noise it makes when VVT is bad, common failure proves the car was not maintained well [oil changes were not frequent enough so the VVT failed]. See it on many abused J30 and older 90-95 300zx.

How does one descriibe it? Sometimes kind of like a bad idler pulley except not nearly as loud slipping screech to a quiet screechy moan coming from the VVT ends to no sound at all at the beginning of the failure.
