hi i have a 96 sentra and i belive i have a vtc problem i dont have 350 to get a new 1 (i already tested the solenoid valve and its good) so i was wondering what my oppositions are can i rebuild it like the maximas and if so where can i get the partsshould i just find 1 out in the junkyardsor can i get a little wild and pull the cam and sprocket off another nissan and remove the vtc all together (i like this idea just if i go this route i want to use a sprocket with correct marking) or can i just use another sprocket im not really worried about losing to much performance

thanks every 1 joe

What exactly is the problem? You may just have a tensioner or guide problem.

{edit} the problem is i have a surge power loss w/e you want to call it at highway speeds it feels like the timing is being changed while i drive (i know the feeling from 240's that have had bad timing issues) i just changed the guides and tensioners thinking they might be the problemthanksjoe

i went out side and looked at the exhaust sprocket and the timing marks to the cam pin and exactly the same so i would be able to use a ga16de exhaust sprocket on the intake cam correct?would i run into any oil problems?can i just put a plug in the vtc solenoid hole or can i leave the solenoid in there?will removing the solenoid cause a check engine light?and looking at the vtc timing chart between 1,100 and 5,400 rpm (vtc on) the timing is at 8 degrees advance and above 5,400 (vtc off) its -12 degrees

how would i time at like 5 degrees advance just use the orginal marks or would i have to slip the timing a few links (haven't messed with timing on chains before) so 1 link would equal how many degrees timing?

thanks sorry if i seem anoying or anything just really want to get this car back on the road and like i said its just a daily driver so im not worried about performance so what ever you guys think timing wise if i go this route would give me the best drivablity is fine by me thanks againjoe

it seems that people with vtc sr20s remove the vtc all the time for adjustable cam gears so im going to go to the junkyard and grab and exhaust sprocket and advance the timing 1 link and see how the car runs if it runs like crap then ill see about getting another intake sprocket if any 1 has some extra info that might help me out that would be greatthanksjoe
