So I've been doing some research and everybody says that the VR4 rotors are sooo bad, and I'm still unsure why..?

Anyways, theres a set sitting in my garage that I planned to toss on with my factory wheels and calipers, but I now no longer have access/can't find the brackets... (However my step father can machine them for me if I could get a set of plans? :gotme)

I'd like to use them as long as I'm not going to die from doing so lol, but If theres another somewhat cheap rotor upgrade while still using OEM wheels please let me know!!

And obviously I know there are an abundance of kits for larger wheels which are all reasonably priced, but I don't plan on doing wheels for a few years, so if the VR4 rotors are a bad idea, then Ill sell 'em or something. I just hate how small the OEM rotors are, and wanna do something about it if possible.

I had VR-4 rotors on my black Z when I got it. Front end shuddered like nobody's business. Put my stock brakes back on, no problems. I see two main issues.

1) the brackets were a thin steel, maybe 3/16"
2) the spacers were not hubcentric, which all spacers should be.

if you made new brackets out of thicker AL, and used hubcentric 5mm spacers, I don't see why they'd be bad.

I can take a look for the brackets this weekend, to see if I still have them. I don't think I do though. If I do I'll send them to you for the cost of shipping. I wouldn't use them for anything more than a template though.

If you could find the brackets Ill give you $20 on top of the shipping! That would save sooo much time.

That does seem a little on the thin side... especially for the amount of force put on those brackets.

But yea my step father knows almost too much about metals, and I actually talked to him about this already and he almost immediately knew what to use. I'll have to get some hubcetrics though, I actually have a little shuddering going on now. Problem is I can't tell if it's my rotors (pretty sure they're warped a little) or my spacers that are on right now.

You should make a thread for ppl that have the same problem as you that way they know how to fix it and what to use

Haha I didn't interpret it that way.. The way I see it is that he is trying to figure out how to solve the problem haha.. Thats why I was suggesting to make it into a thread with how he solved the problem..

My bad :chuckle:

Best to just keep everything in the same thread, IMHO, less clutter.

Make a new thread if you want, and I'll merge it anyway :)

I may consider this if someone can figure out how to do use those rotors without shuddering? I'm assuming the rears are untouched with this rotor swap right?

Threadjacking for one second I promise:

is there a good diy big brake upgrade available/relatively easy to swap? I read something about swapping in q45 calipers and its 11.8 rotors on 240's, as opposed to 300zx tt calipers and its shorter rotors. Wonder if it would work with us too. :gotme

*edit* did some self research, and found that the 350z track model's brake rotors are 12.75, as opposed to our stock 10.8. Will not work with stock wheels, at least 17" is required. http://s95014253.onlinehome.us/63104/104050.html The company the guy bought the adapters from went out of business, says the author. Maybe someone knows where we can pick them up from?

Further edit, apparently i'm not hip to 300zx parts as I thought I was. CZp sells them + track rotors. http://www.czp.us/Cart/description.php? ... e=300&UID=

I'll be doing this after i get some better 17's

No, he sells the 350Z track rotors and a bracket.

And Bernie is far from out of business, CZP just copied his bracket so he stopped making them since he was getting undercut.

I believe Zspeedperformance.com sells them as well (a different design) and isn't CZP.

Reason: because now that I'm a mod I should refrain from making desparaging comments about sponsors, no matter how shady they are.

I said why in the original post lol. Plus I don't have a couple grand to blow on the wheels I want right now.. college does that apparently.

I'm going to my garage tomorrow, I'll take a look for the rotors and brackets and try to reply tomorrow night.

I think I tossed them :/ The rotors were all rusted. I'll check again when I put the car away for the winter, but I didn't see them where I thought they'd be. Sorry man.

Ahhh, that's to bad, thanks for checking though! I think I'll have to try and get in touch with the guys at that Ztuner website and see what they're willing to give me, information wise. Other than that I don't really see that many other options... :gotme

If you get the rotors, the mocking up process isn't that bad.

I may have kept the adapters and spacers, but they'd be in my misc Z parts tool box. I'll check, but I'm not expecting anything.

I have vr4 rotors and the adapters on my car now and have tracked the car here and there no problems. I am upgrading the brakes to the akebonos so you would need to wait a couple months i just need to send my akebonos to get power coated. My email is [email protected]

How would you suggest doing that??

Because I tried mocking these up the other day, had everything vaguely where is should be and couldn't get the caliper to not rub on the inside of my wheels. Is it that tight or am I missing something? (I have oem wheels too -just a reminder).

You will need a 5mm spacer. That much I know.

Ok, I already have 15 mm spacers on there with extended Nismo studs. I just did kind of a quick "loose" mock up so maybe once everything is tightened down and in place ill be fine.

My only issue is that I can't seem to find anyone that actually used them with oem wheels. Because based off of what I saw, I'm guessing theres MAYBE 1/8" (and thats being generous) of clearance between the inside of the wheel and the caliper, which kinda scares me..

I think they should fit with OEM TT rears, unsure of fronts. My car came with them, and RP-01s when I bought it.

No prob. OEM TT rears in all four corners. Many track guys do it for 255s all around.
