VQHR Suddenly out of timing? Help!

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

hi
So Saturday March 22, 2015 morning I took my 2010 EX for a 1 mile coffee run with my 85 year old dad. I Came back, turn the car off in the driveway. The car waited in the driveway for 3 hours. Then, suddenly, No start! It cranked but never started. We drained the battery and got CAA (AAA) to come to boost it. Nada.

We toe trucked it to a dealer. The car and dealer is in Montreal and I am back in Ottawa now.

He called me today saying that it is the timing that is totally out. Everything ran fine Saturday at 9am and then no starts at noon. They are proceeding to "get into the engine" (his words) to check what could be happening. He says the engine is still under warrantee (until November 2015). Yet, I am 5 months and 3000 km out of the "bumper to bumper" warrantee.

So I am freaking out a little. What could cause this sudden out of timing? I don't reeve it, nothing like that at all. I hope they do not deny a warrantee claim for any stupid reason.

Anyone knows about "out of timing" issue with a VQHR?

Any help would be appreciated. I will keep you all posted as to what they find.

Ice

Could it be the timing tensioner? Or even the Timing belt / chain stretched out causing timing to be off

I just read something similar issue of stalling or no start for 2010 EX35 model due to corroded wireharness connector in the BCM or control model? Are you sure yours is similar? Maybe search for EX35 wireharness corroded for 2010.

Hi everyone

The dealer just called me and it is not the timing, but the fuel pump that needs replacing. Apparently a "short" or something. the timing is fine. this diagnostic makes more sense since the engine was cranking smoothly and perfectly; it seemed no gas was getting to it. It is a $975 fix- all in (Canadian dollars) - after diagnostic fees and all. This amount seems high even for us Canucks. The dealer is contacting Infiniti Canada to see if they can do anything to help, given I am literally 4 months and 3,000 KM out of the "bumper to bumper" warranty.

I already had my pump replaced 2 years ago because the gauge was not working well.

I recall reading about "fuel pump failures" in earlier EX models. Is there a TBS or anything that someone can point me too? I'll search but any help from this community in building a case for some level of support from Infiniti would be nice.

Thanks

Ice

So to close the loop on this one. I called infiniti Canada about the $1010 fuel pump replacement 13 months after another replacement. They called back today. They told me they will give me a credit of $1010 (the full amount) to use on any service or parts from my dealership! I am impressed. They back up their cars and parts.

While it is not a full refund, this is the next best things.

Cheers...and thank you Infinii.

congrats. Yes - much better than nothing and certainly better than a jab in the eye with a sharp stick!

What are you going to use it on?

Yea... I am thinking I'll use it in an extended warranty? :)

Seriously oil changes and general maintenance. I feel the 5AT is shifting hard from 1 to 2 after going from R to D. Not sure if I need fresh transmission fluid or what.
