OK guys, it's time for me to be the n00b and let you all edumacate my a$$ on this stuff.
I've done a few swaps, but they've ALL been pre-OBD2. As such, there's been no issues.
However, I recently ran into a HUGE problem doing an engine / drivetrain swap on a 2009 vehicle... CAN-BUS wiring, no wiring diagram or ECU pinout documentation, and NO precedent (first one ever attempted) made this project damn near impossible - A year later, I'm *still* chasing issues.
SO, with that said, I want to do a swap into an old Datsun. Ideally, I'd love to do a VQ40 / 6MT from a 05+ Frontier / Pathy / Xterra.
However, in perusing the wiring diagrams in the FSM, it's got some can-bus wiring, as well as throttle-by-wire. UGH.
Am I stuck with pre-OBD2? I really don't want to "settle" for something else, but if it looks like it's going to be a huge expense, I may just snatch up a tired SR or KA, build it, and save some money / headaches.
Let's talk.
