Anyone ever heard of a successful VQ40 Swap? I've been researching performance upgrades heavily for my 99.5 QX4 that would actually be Cali legal.
So far, I'm coming up goose eggs. I think as long as I use an engine that is from the same vehicle but newer, I can swap in anything I want. I'm sure I could find some low mileage VQ40's at a wrecker.

The thing is, 2001+ VQ engine R50's have a completely different front clip, I dont think it would be a very straighforward swap a VQ35 into our VG33 pathfinders because the mounts are different I'm sure you could weld in new motor mounts and you'd be golden, but its custom fabrication.... it could be done with the $$... **** my cousins in poland be swappin some very odd motors, like mercedes V12's and ford scorpio engines into Jeeps, and they live in the boonies, we can definitely swap nissa engines into our n issans VQ40 in an R50 would haul ***!!

from what I understand, the VQ40 is just a VQ35 block overboard, redesigned crank, and longer rods that all increase displacement. If that is truly the case, build up a VQ35 and slap on some R34 or GT-SS turbos. you will walk away from any VQ40 equiped vehicle so long as our transmission will hold up to....say 360HP? I just guessing here, but if we can tow 5K lbs, our transmission must be build with some kind of strenght in mind?

Not done. Too much work. Would need motor, transfer case, transmission, etc. They're bigger motors to drop in that would be as much work.

My next project is to swap a vq40de into a nissan patrol y61 swb
I want to know if someone has successfully done a transplant of that engine, harness, ecu, pedal, etc.
Or if you know of someone who can tweak the ECU to install the engine without so many sensors in another vehicle.
