I decided to replace my damaged upper oil pan in my new motor. I removed both upper oil pans from both motors. The new engines (the one with the damaged upper oil pan) has a shield around the oil strainer. The old motor (the one with the good upper oil pan) does not. What is this "shield" for, and will it be a problem that I'm swapping the upper oil pan with one that doesn't have the shield?

Also, the service manual says to replace the two o-rings on the engine block. Is that a necessary step?

I don't have a Z, but I believe that plate is a baffle on oil pans used to prevent total loss of oil from the lower oil pan & pickup tube when you make aggressive maneouvers and the oil swooshes to one side. It would be to your benefit to transfer it if at all possible. But hey, they released the car without a baffle on that other oil pan, right? :gapteeth: :gapteeth:

I can't immediately tell which O-rings you're referring to, but my guess is that they are related to the oil system. They might look fine, but it is a bear to get back in there to replace such cheap components if you start having oil pressure issues.

Yup the baffle, is just there to keep the oil from sloshing so much, the rev up in my 06 GT has it, my friends rev up 05 AE did not and neither did the revup replacement he bought. We did find that his oil pan and harness had an oil temp sensor, the replacement did not, we simply swapped the parts over, the pan had the bung. Be sure to use your old harness so you know everything is present.
