Is it true that the vq35de is designed to use oil? If so how much is normal?
Thanks,
Jay

All motors are designed to use oil. I assume you're trying to ask if the VQ is designed to burn or consume it's oil. And the answer to that is a HELL NO. It's a defect that will essentially require a rebuild to fix. The piston rings that came from the factory were flawed and need to be replaced with an updated version. Check around online because your warranty may cover it.

I have an 04 maxima se and if you read in the owners manual it says that it is normal to have to add oil inbetween changes. I am wondering from other people who have owned the vq35de how much oil is normal to have to add inbetween changes. I have been running synthetic mobil 1 and have noticed that I am going through some of it, yet I have no blue smoke out the tailpipes and the car seems to still run strong. How much are you guys having to add inbetween changes?
Thanks for the input.
