Ok first things first, this is my first post, and after quite a bit of research on the internet looking for answers with no luck I decided to turn here. I DO NOT own a Z however I did recently purchase a VQ35DE for my rock crawler project build. I chose this motor because of the HP/TQ numbers apposed to the original 22r that is in my Toyota now and the fact that my axles cant handle the HP/TQ of a V8 motor. It came down to this or a 4.3L chevy v6 and considering I am not really on much of a budget at this point I wanted to be different and I went with the VQ. Now that that is out of the way.... I have a few questions about transmissions, adapters, swaps, etc. I have seen powerglide adapters and they are pretty high (not that it matters really) but no need to spend that much if there is a better option out there.. I was just wandering what all transmissions have/can be adapted to the VQ platform? In reality a Nissan Titan Auto transmission would be ideal if there is/was a way to adapt it or a even a Frontier trans considering both would already have transfer cases ready to bolt to them. Sorry if I am in the wrong section of the forum or asking questions already discussed, but I have googled, binged, yahoo'd, and ask.com'd and dam near every search engine out there looking for answers and while I have gotten some good info there was never a clear answer aside from a powerglide...
Thanks, Tyler

You should probably hear over to the Xterra section. The engine in the new X's is just a VQ with 4 litres of displacement, and their knowledge is going to be more in line with what you're working on and what you want as the end result.

Is the project far enough along food some cool pics yet? I'm kinda interested in a Z powered crawler.

Welcome to NICO! :badger

OK I will do that. See, and this is why I came here lol because I would have never even thought about an Xterra?? Thanks for your help!

As far as the project goes it will be getting started sometime here in the next month or so. Just trying to source all of my parts and info right now. This transmission thing has been the major hold up for the past 2 months...Soon as I figure that out I can decide on a transfercase and the running gear will be complete and will be smooth sailing from there. As it stands now I have my VQ, a built set of toyota axles, my winches, my seats and harnesses, and a whole BIG a** PILE of other odds and ends parts lol but I have all my high dollar stuff except for the trans and t-case. There is a local shop here that does all our tube chassis work and he is top notch, uses the bend-tech cad program, not to mention he is an ex-nascar chassis builder so saying he does "good" work would be a slight understatement ha. I can start a build thread when it actually gets rolling along if there is some interest here or in the X section.
