ok so i found a used engine out of a 2003 350Z and i wanted to purchase it to build for later use in my daily driven G35 so before i made this purchase i wanted to know if the engines are EXACTLY the same or are there minor differences that make this swap a no-no...... all thoughts are welcome

Thanks in advance,
Kadeem

Very cool idea! Not sure on the specifics...but we have a few techs that have tons of knowledge that will know.

the only difference i've heard is that the G35 engine has "bigger" or "stronger" cams and i can't seem to find a write up with the differences in engines :tisk: so i hope someone can help me out with this i'm looking to have this project up and running before my birthday (July)

Something has to be different, they wouldn't rated at different HP/TQ ratings. Though I'm not sure if its in the engine or ECU.

The engines are EXACTLY the same. the only thing different is the internals (cams, valves, etc) The motor in my Altima Coupe is the same as well (VQ35). Aside from the internals, the intake is Totally different because it is mounted transversed. You will definately need the ECU to take advantage of the tune, although I'm not sure if the wiring will be the same but because both the G and Z are RWD, everything should easily match up. With that said, I'm sure you can take the ECU from the G and get it flashed.

On a side note, since you have the motor out, that would be the best time to upgrade other components such as the clutch, if it's stick, headers, etc...

Those engines are identical if comparing year for year. Put a G35 engine in a 350z last year, plug & play. The differences in HP/TQ ratings is all in the ECU and a bit of marketing....

The engines are 100% identical. The reason for the different HP/TQ readings is the different intake on the 350z, other than that 100% identical. The version with the upgraded cams that the other poster was referring to is the VQ35DE revup model from the 2005-2006 6MT. All automatics have the same non revup engine, as well as 2003-2004 6MT's
