Hey guys I was wondering if anyone knew anything about a VQ35 swap. I have a 2004 g35 VQ35 engine, cluster gauge, wire harness, and i bunch of other stuff, basically have a front end of a g35 (5spd auto) and was wonder how much an engine swap would cost? I don't have a 240sx but that's why I'm hear. If this whole process doesn't cost too much then I'll buy a 240sx and do a VQ35 swap. Oh yeah another question is, is it actually worth it. I don't have to pay for the g35 parts, I already have all of that. Got it for free. Even though it was free would it be cheaper to do this and get awesome results, then rather rebuilding and slapping a turbo on a kade. Please tell me what you guys think and what path should I take.
Thank you(:

not sure what your definition of "doesnt cost to much" is, but you already have the motor, transmission, ecu, and dash cluster, if i were you id acquire a clean 240 that is in general a good condition car minus drivetrain. probably be had between 3-7000 for a "good conditon" and start researching the swap. me personally i love the vq sound, and theres good potential with the engine as far as power goes so if your up for it. give it a shot.

I wouldn't suggest this swap. In reality, if you don't have fabrication and wiring competence or $$, it will be a waste of time. A local driver swapped a VQ35 into his S14, had it running, drove 2 events... and then pulled it. It simply isnt worth the hassle. You can make more power, cheaper with a basic SR GT2871 setup.. not to mention the simplicity.

I llike the VQ series motors, but in my opinion, they're are just like the VG series. They are good engines, just not worth the swap into an S chassis, as there are other swaps readily available and documented that will give you equal, if not more power.

Everyone likes to be "unique" but unless you have the resources (and the fact you're asking this question is a sign you dont) it simply isnt worth it.

Go KA-T, SR, RB, or even JZ or LS.. theres tons of info and swap parts available when compared to VQ and VG.

I completely agree with Badbob. Once upon a time, I was in love with the idea of a VQ35 swapped S-Chassis or even better yet, a VQ30DET swapped 240. But when you look at all the work required and the results yielded, I find it hard to justify the costs. You're talking between $7000 to $8000 to get it running properly. At that point, most ppl seem to make about 280whp due to eliminating retrictive exhaust flow & improved drivetrain parts. That kinda power which isn't bad, but for that kinda money, you can just go buy a 350Z almost.

Were I you, I'd sell the stuff you have on a G35 or 350Z board and buy something that's already turbo'd, like a MR2 turbo, 300ZX or a clean SR swapped 240sx. You can get all of these anywhere from $4k to $8k. Other than a turbo Miata, I can't think of any lighter, cheaper, or simpler bargain sports car to own than a SR swapped 240. $8000 spent building an SR swapped 240 will go pretty far.

The only reason I'd realistically consider a VQ35 swap nowadays is if you're in a CARB-legal state like California that cracks down on JDM engine swaps & turbo kits for your N/A engine. But even if I lived in Cali, I'd rather just go buy a car with the engine I wanted that to do a swap like the VQ...

Thanks guys I really appreciate it. I'll probebly going to sell the the G parts and buy a turbo for my next G35. Once again thanks for the advice!
